On 03/30/24, I paid TME $107.00 to replace the battery on a phone that I hardly ever use. The phone is used for picture and file storage, so I rarely charge the phone. It hasn't even been a year and the phone started doing the same things it did before that signaled a poor battery. I ran the code to test the battery health and the screen said the battery is indeed already bad. Clearly this is a defective battery. I had contacted *** today and they said that their warranty on their work is only 90 days. Obviously if I barely ever open this phone, it would be easy to surpass 90 days without realizing the battery replacement is defective. The woman on the phone said I could bring the phone back and she could open it up to check the battery, but TME charges a $30 "intake fee". After I paid $107.00 for this phone battery to be replaced (which included their "intake fee" that time), I think it is ridiculous that they would insist on charging me another $30 intake fee just to check if the battery they installed is defective.

As stated in our policy, our 90-day warranty covers both the battery and labor, ensuring that any issues within that period are promptly addressed. Unfortunately, the battery issue arose 11 months after installation, which is well outside of our warranty coverage.

We cannot be responsible for the long-term performance of components beyond the warranty period, as battery longevity depends on various factors, including usage, storage conditions, and manufacturer lifespan. While we strive to provide quality parts and service, no repair shop or manufacturer can reasonably warranty a battery for an indefinite periodwhich is why most industry warranties are limited.

Our $30 diagnostic fee is not a hidden charge but a standard industry practice that allows us to properly assess issues before recommending solutions. It is not an obligation to proceed with repairs, and we always provide transparent pricing before any further work is done.

I am rejecting this response because:
Most phone battery manufacturers do have a warranty that is atleast a year. I was not told WHERE the battery that *** had ordered for my phone was purchased from, let alone if there was any kind of manufacturer warranty on it. For all I know , *** could have purchased said battery off **** & that is IF they even put a new one in it. I can 100% assure that my said phone was not "stored impromperly". At the very least, I would appreciate if TME could SHOW me exactly WHERE said battery was ordered (& manufacturer). Also, the 30$ intake fee is not "common practice" for taking a small amount of time to take another look at the faulty installed battery (or atleast test it) on a work order that already paid the intake fee. Basically , *** needs to do better at reassuring the customer, doing right by them , & standing behind what they do! You cannot tell me that the employees there have never made one mistake on any of the work orders that come through TME.

    Sincerely,

    ***** ******

We appreciate your feedback and understand your concerns. At ***, we strive to provide quality service and stand behind the work we perform within our 90-day warranty policy.

    Addressing Your Concerns:
    1. Battery Manufacturer & Source We source our batteries from reputable suppliers, not third-party marketplaces like ****. While we do not disclose our exact vendor for proprietary reasons, we ensure that the batteries we install meet industry standards. However, manufacturer warranties on batteries vary, and our service warranty is set at 90 days, which was communicated at the time of service.
    2. Storage & Usage We are not implying improper storage, but battery longevity depends on multiple factors, including age, storage conditions, and even firmware updates. Since the phone was brought to us 10 months after service, it is outside our warranty period.
    3. $30 Intake Fee While we understand your frustration, diagnostic and intake fees cover technician time and evaluation. This is a standard industry practice, particularly for devices beyond the warranty period. We also offer thorough inspections to determine if the issue stems from battery performance, device hardware, or software before making further recommendations. This $30 is then applied to the overall cost.

    Moving Forward:
We want to reassure you that customer satisfaction is important to us. While we cannot extend the warranty beyond the agreed terms, we are happy to inspect your device again and offer solutions at the best possible rate. We cannot do this service for free. Please reach out directly if you would like to proceed with a device evaluation, and we will do our best to assist you further.

I am rejecting this response because:  TME claims that they source their batteries from reputable suppliers , yet refuse to be transparent and SHOW me that they did so.  They won't divulge their battery supplier because of "proprietary reasons" ???  Or is it really because their supplier is known for sending out a few defective batteries here and there??  A good customer experience usually requires transparency & reassurance  from business.  Is it really too much to ask for TME to open my phone up and assure me that the "new" battery they had put in my phone is not defective?  Is it really too much to ask that they assure me that they actually DID change the battery out?  Because at this point, there is really no way to prove that they even did that.  And on top of it TME still demands that in order for them to PROVE TO ME THAT THEY DID THEIR JOB THAT I HAD PAID THEM TO DO, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THEM ANOTHER 30$ FOR THEM TO DO JUST THAT?  Sounds like extortion to me.   Whoever owns this business does not really "stand behind their work" if this is how they want to keep responding to this complaint.... No matter how much they keep insisting they do.  I've seen the kids that work there.  How do I know that one of them didn't take the old battery out, then went on break , and another kid came along & accidentally put the old battery back in it and slapped it back together & said its ready to go?  Can TME show me that that is not the case?  Do they even care to show me that?  Nope, because they want to charge me to show me that.

    Sincerely,
