I adopted a dog.she was carried and put on my lap and showed no reaction. I thought it was because she had been spayed and was on pain meds. After I signed the paper work and was ready to leave the volunteer said would you like me to carry her? She doesnt walk on a leash. For the next 9+ weeks I asked for help and guidance. They failed. She lived on my couch with me, pee pad, food, water. She wouldnt walk. I carried her in out up down stairs 5 times a day. It affected me physically. Would you live this way? They said be patient.hire a trainer. But she was broken. I knew I couldnt fix her. She needed another dog! I returned her and in a week she was adopted to someone with a dog. I I asked about fees and adopting again. No response til I told them I would go to the rescue. Then they told me I couldnt adopt because I returned her. They punished me for their short comings. If we were on the same team they would have been grateful for my efforts and willing to help me find another dog. Yes they are volunteers, do good things, but not this time. Disclaimers dont change their responsibilities for providing the required level of support. I have had dogs all my life and know what I dont know. I dont know about breeder releases. They are experts and could have done better. My emails about **** tell the story .they need to have a trained designated chain of command to escalate support issues so no one else gets treated like this. Maybe the dog needs to be vetted for a period of time before it gets adopted. People who adopt and have to return their dog need to have a voice and it appears there is no where to go but here. That needs to change, too.
