I was referred to Spartan Motorworkz by a family member of mine regarding engine issues I was having with my vehicle. January 19th I paid them $1895.82 to order the parts and engine for my vehicle. The engine arrived January 27th and I was advised it would take 2-3 days for the engine to be replaced. ***** from the repair shop consistently kept providing excuses for the delay of the repair that ultimately was not completed until February 7th well past the estimated completion date. 11 days after receiving the vehicle back the Engine Temperature Hot indicator, The service ECM module and the check engine light all proceeded to come on as well as the car idles incorrectly. I contacted the repair shop and was advised that the temperature was correct and it must be a sensor. ***** from the shop advised me to monitor the temperature to make sure it didn't overheat and that they would let me know when I could bring in the vehicle to be looked at. Weeks go by and it is not until MARCH 26th that he advises me he would call me Thursday March 28th to drop off the vehicle so they could troubleshoot the issue. He did not contact me Thursday and I was out driving that Friday night and the vehicle broke down while I was driving it. I contacted them and was advised to have the vehicle towed to them. I had the vehicle towed to their shop Friday night and I was advised Saturday they attempted to start it but couldn't figure out what was wrong with it and they wouldn't be able to get back to working on it until Monday. Since they had the vehicle for three days and the car was covered by a warranty I had the vehicle towed to another shop that services my warranty. They diagnosed the vehicle and they determined the alternator needed to be replaced and did the repair however it did not correct the original issues. I have been contacting Spartan Motorworkz since then to diagnose the original issues and they have ignored all of my requests to service the vehicle.

**************** dropped off his vehicle stating he had a issue with the vehicle running rough. We verified the complaint and found one of the cylinders not holding compression due to a broken exhaust valve. We advised the customer that the best course of action would be to replace the engine with a lower mileage used unit, as repairing the current unit may reveal more damage once disassembled. We sent a estimate to the customer and he agreed to get the service done. Customer provides deposit amount to order engine and related parts and fluids when replacing engine assembly. Engine was ordered and arrived on Jan 27th. We notified him and told him we will notify him once the car is able to get into the shop. Vehicle was in the shop Feb 1st and car was completed on Feb 7th with rough running condition no longer present. On Feb 19th we received a text from **************** stating the is starting to run hot. Coolant temp was at 219F. I told him the car may get to *******F before the cooling fan comes on and temperature drops. Told him to keep monitoring and if it continues, to drop off the vehicle for us to check. Didn't hear from customer until Mar 29th stating that the car threw a code for power steering system and dash code present. Customer came to a stop and vehicle would not restart. On Mar 30th, we check the vehicle and verified the condition, car does not restart. Pulled it in the shop and verified good battery voltage. 12.3-12.4v. Load tested at good range. Checked signal wire at starter and voltage present. Recommended replacing starter. On April 1st, customer states the starter is covered under his aftermarket warranty and to have the vehicle serviced at a Carshield approved shop. Vehicle was towed out that morning to another shop. Customer reached out and stated the other repair facility replaced the starter and alternator. Customer reached out April 16th with a video showing the rpm surging. Customer stopped in and we stated that there may be a vacuum leak present. Suspected leak around intake manifold. Other shop that repaired the starter would have had to remove the intake manifold when replacing starter assembly and recommended taking back to facility. Customer reached out on May 16th and we stated to customer that we no longer were at our old location as the new owners took over our old unit. We stated we may be with out shop unit first week of June.(That was delayed until June 20th.) Customer reached out on July 27th to say the car is overheating. Sent picture with coolant in engine bay. Customer asked if he could drive vehicle to shop and we advised against that as that can cause further damage. Customer tows vehicle to shop and we verify condition and found a broken Heater Supply Coolant Hose. Notified customer and he stated to make a quote and submit to warranty company before 2pm to try and get him into a rental vehicle. Made quote and submitted to warranty company. **************** denied claim as hoses aren't covered under said warranty. Customer states for us to look at A/C system, however we don't have the proper A/C Machine(1234YF machine) to check the system properly. ******** requested us to still make a claim, we told him, we can't, as we don't have the proper equipment to test the system. We send quote over to customer and he states he can't afford the repair. He tells us he is going through financial hardship and we try to accommodate and lower the price on the service and repair. Customer declines and states his uncle will be performing the repair free of charge and tows vehicle out of shop on July 28th.

I am rejecting this response because: Spartan Motorworks has not corrected the original issue of the vehicle temperature sensor going off. The vehicle has been diagnosed and it was confirmed that the sensor is being triggered due to the coolant system not being properly flushed after the engine was replaced. I have taken the vehicle to spartan on several different occasions and they never mentioned that this was an issue and avoided looking further into the vehicle. There has been several issues since they have taken the vehicle in for service and have not addressed any. They have made several promises to take the vehicle and the vehicle sits and no work is done and the vehicle has to be towed elsewhere. I would like a partial refund of the labor to have the temperature sensor issue to be resolved and I would like to have the possible electrical issues addressed that Spartan Motorworks advised exists but has not addressed.

    Sincerely,

The original issue was not temperature related. The original issue was addressed when the motor was replaced. The temperature sensor is a separate issue. When the engine was replaced the vehicle was vacuum filled to purge all air out of the system per service instructions. The cooling system was properly purged and filled. The "possible" electrical issue is separate as well. **************** has towed the vehicle on 2 occasions to the shop. One was when the vehicle left him stranded when saw the a dash message present for power steering system. He turned vehicle off and could not get it restarted. Vehicle was towed in Friday night March 29th. We looked at the vehicle Saturday March 30th and found good battery voltage present and load tested at good range. Checked signal wire for starter and good. Starter assembly needs to be replaced. We sent a quote to **************** and on April 1st. He tells us that the vehicle has warranty coverage and would have to go to a approved shop by *********. Vehicle is towed out. Second tow was on July 27th when the heater supply hose failed. We gave **************** a quote and attempted to get it covered through his warranty company and was told hoses aren't covered through said warranty. Since it was not covered, the warranty company wouldn't issue a rental vehicle. Customer states he can't afford the repair due to financial hardship. We try to accommodate and lower the price point of the repair. ******** declined and stated his uncle would perform the service for him. Customer tows vehicle out on July 28th

We are willing to replace the thermostat under warranty and goodwill the coolant Temperature sensor. We will not issue any refunds for the original engine replacement as the engine was replaced due to low compression.

We have since attempted to reach out to **************** to come to a resolution and have not been able to get in touch. We called on July 27th at 1:14pm and left **************** a voicemail. We attempted another phone call July 28th at 10:10am and he didn't pick up. We left another voicemail to **************** asking him to reach out to us.

I am rejecting this response because: I was advised that Spartan Motorworkz would replace the thermostat and the coolant temperature sensor> I would like the issue to be resolved however I would like the work completed at another service repair shop. Spartan Motorworkz has had several opportunities to address the issue and have not made any attempts to resolve this until the report was filed with the BBB. They advised they would not issue any partial refund however I do not want the work completed by them considering the amount of time it has taken for them to acknowledge the issue.

    Sincerely,
