My water softener failed last December. We called Water Wagon because they originally installed for the previous owner of our home and their sticker was on the equipment. The technician came out and investigated the failure. I asked if a total rebuild would get me another five (5) years out of it. He said that could be done and rebuilt the head unit (controls) and replaced the media. The cost over two (2) visits approximately $550.In July, the newly rebuilt softener failed again and the leak ruined a portion of our new wood floor. I called Water Wagon and the woman who answered the phone said she had someone in the neighborhood who could stop by but there would be an $85 service call charge. I said that I would be glad to pay the charge if the problem turned out to be something unrelated to the previous rebuild but did not see how that would be necessary since the technician said everything had been replaced with new parts and media. She said that there was only a 30-day guarantee on parts and labor and she would not send the technician unless I agreed to pay. I stated that it wasn't good business when the original charge was to rebuild so I could get 5 more years out of it. Feeling deceived, I called another local service that repaired the unit successfully. They had to replace the entire head unit and controls and a damaged bypass valve that the technician said appeared to be "force fitted" back into place. He said it was loose and if it failed, water could have flooded the house if not caught immediately. The total cost for repairing the unit correctly was $637. My resolution is a full refund of the +- $550 and I will return the failed head with the supposed new parts (controls) in it. Otherwise, I will have no option than to take legal action to recover my initial repair investment from Water Wagon. I would much rather settle this amicably.
