Bought a shovel that has an aluminum scraper attached that allows you to break and get under ice. Using little to mismal strength to shovel for my disabled mom, the blade bends back. I just purchased the shovel 4 days ago. Called talked to manager, he was saying " it's -9 wind chill and we had yo-ho brands do this all the time with the riveted blade"! So not only did he treat me like I'm not a customer for 10 years, he treated me with disrespect and denied a return then though there's a "Nicholson sticker"with the price *****. definitely not worth the money.

Communication with this customer was via a short phone call ending abruptly when somebody on his end hung up. Customer apparently purchased a snow shovel and, per his complaint used it as an ice scraper and chopper. We tried to communicate that there are tools to shovel snow and there are tools to chop and scrape ice. The metal blade on the shovel is there as a wear strip increasing the life of the shovel when used as a shovel.

Also, ***** is a much lower price than anything we sell with a metal wear strip. If the shovel in question has a price tag of ***** it was not purchased 4 days ago. I would contend it was purchased years ago prior to multiple manufacturers price increases.

Again, we have not seen this shovel but based on the phone conversation and reinforced by the information in this complaint, we feel the tool was probably used improperly and was not a Manufacturers defect therefore it is not covered under the Manufacturers warranty.

I am rejecting this response because: I apologize about the delayed response. As stated I purchased the shovel four to five days ago with the idea in mind after searching the internet that the cheapest shovel Nicholson's hardware had was **** and after doing research on this shovel it states it's the best for ice removal due to the aluminum unbendable rivet that is attached. Upon shoveling snow I was not even using a quarter of my strength, when I gently went under the snow and was hitting ice with it ((not my fault)) as it is below zero and due to the manufacturer's defect the aluminum rivet bent backwards immediately upon contact with the icy snow. I have never once lied to anybody in my life about something so blatant. In fact when I called I was told that you didn't even sell ****. That I must have bought the shovel somewhere else. Also the manager kept contesting in some form of fashion that I was a liar and that it was all my fault for the aluminum rivet being bent. I was clearly telling him what really happened and telling him the truth. I abruptly hung up after saying some profound things which I called back today and apologized for. Upon initial apology and stating that I've been a customer for over 10 to 15 years that I was sorry for being rude and he offered for me to switch out the shovel for equal or lesser value. So I reject this initial complaint and go and accept the duly noted compliance from your kind manager ****. He's a really good person and so is the staff at Nicholson hardware I consider this closed.

    Sincerely,
