On 2-10-2025, Mr Files gave me an estimate of $6550 to replace tile in one room and down main hallway with ceramic tile. I had already purchased new tileHe asked for $4275 down payment. He came to my house twice previous to inspect the rooms and floors to assess the project and possible other issues. On tuesday April 16th he removed the snap and lock vinyl tile from the floors which were not glued or nailed down. At that time he said the hard wood floors under the tile in hallway were too badly damaged to put ceramic tile on top which was his original plan. He was also concerned about slope in small area that he was well aware of at time if inspection. He said the slope may indicate a joist issue. He asked for $3500 more on another written estimate to repair joist and remove subflooring and replace. He also removed a small 2 by 4 ft section of ceramic tile by entryway. He was concerned about water spot in the breezeway. I explained that the water was from a fish tank filter had leaked. He insisted there was a roof leak and he would return Thursday or Friday 17th or 18thwhen it rained to see if any rain was coming in. He never showed back up. I texted him on Friday asking when he would return. He said he would not be returning to the job. He returned $2,128.50 of my deposit. Charging me $2596.50 for only simple removal. He was told to use my two trash toters. He refused to give itemized receipt for his labor citing he could have charged me a lot more. The room was 14ft by 12 ft on a concrete slab. The tile was not glued down and easily popped up with butter knife. and standard hallway of 22ft. The debris was less than one trash can of full. He wants to argue the condition of the floor was too bad to continue but he gave new estimate for that.. I agree the floor was bad thats not the issue. there is no water leak. He refused to provide his itemized bill. I would never paid that $ for removal
only . He said it was a 2 week job. He worked less than 1 day.
