Back on October 13th 2023 my son **** ********* contacted you about a problem I am having with Pinter Contracting about a steel roof that he installed back in 2022 that was not installed properly and still haven’t heard anything from you or him about this problem. Where do I go from here?? Your help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much. ****** * ********** *** * ****** *** ****** ******* ** ****** ** ***** ******** ***** ***** ******** ****

The contractor was supposed to replace the bad wood on roof before putting on new steel roof and did NOT. as a result of this there are numerus places on the roof where there was no wood under the screws to hold the sheets down, so he just put a gob of silicone on them. He was also  supposed to take ALL the shingles off the roof and did except what was under gutter helmet and i told him i wanted them also taken off. when they came back to do that, they runed all the gutter helmet on the north and west side of house so now the sheets are to short so he put a strip of aluminum across the bottom edge of the sheets to make up the difference.         I want him to come back and do it right t and he won't return my messages or give me any answers

In response to ****** ********* claims, we installed a metal roof on his house and garage like we have done many of times for other customers and my house. He did call me and expressed his opinion on how things need to be fixed, but there is really nothing wrong with the roof itself because it does not leak and water drains out of the gutters and downspouts just fine. Mr. ********* was present the whole time my guys were there working and he even provided lunch for them one day. If he wanted to change the lumber at his expense he should have said something when we had the roof exposed. No where in the contract does it say we are replacing the wood under the shingles, it does state if it is damaged it will be extra time and materials. Removing the asphalt shingles from any roof takes a lot of the weight, pressure off the structure and that is another advantage of installing a metal roof. I did go over and fix a few cosmetic things that he wanted done but again his roof is not leaking so I did go and help my other customers that did have leaking roofs from the storms. He is very impatient and hard to work with. We also did return and installed new gutter guard on the spots that he says we damaged. In all of my 30+ years of business I have never been turned in.

I am rejecting this response because:
Number one, I am NOT a carpenter or a roofer that is why I hired Mr. Pinter to replace my roof. It did say in the contract that any bad wood would be replaced at an extra cost to me and that was fine with me. Number two, he said I was present the whole time they were working on my roof (I was not) I was there off and on and I don't think that has ANYTHING to do with the job being done correctly. He also mentioned that I should have said something about replacing the bad wood when they had the roof exposed. They NEVER EVER had the roof exposed down to the bare wood and only took it down to the black paper that was under the shingles so how could I see what was good and what was bad? They were up there walking around on it NOT ME and I would think if there was a soft spot that it should have been looked into or at least mentioned. I am going to be 80 years old in a few months so I sure can't get up there and inspect it. Number three, he said they also installed new gutter guard on the spots where they runed taking the shingles out from under them and they DID NOT! and by the way the ones that were runed cost me $1300. to have installed so who is going to pay for that mistake. so, now that the gutter guard was ripped off and ruined the sheets on the roof are about seven inches to short, so he put a strip of aluminum across the length of the roof to reach the gutters in all four places the gutter guard was taken off. (Maby that is what he considers gutter guard) All I want is what I paid for, (no more, no less) not a NEW roof where the sheets are to short and has gobs of silicone on all the screws that never had any wood under them to hold the sheets down. How long is that silicone going to stick to the screws before it's pulled off by ice and snow and cause a leek?? It was August of 2022 when this was done, and it is now January of 2024 and NOTHING has been corrected and he says I'm very impatient and hard to work with. He told me early last summer he would come back and replace the sheets that were too short and take the rest of the sheets off the rest of the roof and put new four by eight sheets of wood down (if I payed for the wood and labor for putting it down) and I am still waiting. I talked to him briefly back in September and he ask me to give him one more month and something would be done and i am still waiting for him to call or SOMETHING. After waiting this long and loosing $1300. in my gutter guard i think it would be fair for him to furnish the labor and i will pay for the wood.

I have not heard one word about this matter from Mr. Pinter as of 1/10/24

As ****** states he is not a carpenter so that is why he hired me. I do know what I am doing and have done metal roofs this same way for years and even did one on my own house. My employees were walking on the wood and did not see any reason to change out the wood since it was not damaged. Again the roof is not leaking.

I am rejecting this response because:

As Mr. Pinter states he has been doing metal roofs for years and that is one of the reasons I wanted to hire him to do mine and also keep local people employed.  He also stated that his employees walked on the wood and did not see any reason to change it because it was not damaged. My question is how could they see through the black paper that was NEVER removed from the roof? I have pictures of the roof from the inside of my attic that shows numerus broken and cracked boards with screws coming through the cracks and broken parts of the boards that is not holding ANYTHING down from the outside (SO THEY PUT SILICONE ON THEM) and I invited him in to show him what it looked like and he did go up there and look so he does know what I am talking about. I do not want a new PATCHED roof! All I want is the sheets replaced that are to short (THAT HE TOLD ME HE WOULD DO) on the north and west side of my house and the gutter guarded replaced, sheets taken off the rest of the roof and wood put on so there is something for the sheets to be screwed down to instead of gobs of silicone all over the roof. I also have damaged wood on my garage roof that was not replaced! Hope this can be resolved without going any farther.
