My contractor and I met with **** Mitchell of Mitchell Plumbing to arrange for the installation of a tankless ("hot water on demand") water heater for my workshop. (I also needed a sink plumbed, faucet attached, and a second silcock outside the sink, as well as a silcock outdoors.) I carefully explained that I needed a continuous supply of hot water, and that is why I wanted a tankless system. I was told that Mitchell Plumbing did not install tankless systems, but he would ask a colleague to do the installation. The work was completed on 5/23/23 and was paid that day. I could not test the system that day because there wasn't an electrical outlet nearby. Later in the week an electrician stopped by, deemed that my extension cord was acceptable, and I plugged in the unit and turned on the hot water tap. That is when I discovered that this was NOT a tankless system, but a mini-tank. At this point the contractor confirmed that I had been very clear that I requested a tankless water heater. The contractor approached Mr. Mitchell, and later I talked to him. He would not take the mini-tank system back, nor credit me for it. He only offered to install a tankless system without further labor charge. I would have to eat the cost of the mini-tank system that (in our initial conversation) I explicitly had told him I did not want. Later I had another plumber install a tankless system that I had purchased. I now wanted to try to recoup some of the cost of the mini-tank by attempting to sell it online at some discount. That is when I found out that I had been charged $487 for a mini- tank that retails for $181. Mr. Mitchell had made a profit off of me from his mistake! I ask that Mr. Mitchell reimburse me for at least his profit ($306), if not the total cost of this unit ($487).
