On 9/18, I returned from a trip, and needed a ride from ******************** to my hotel in ***********. The cab driver told me he couldn't give me a price for the trip, or even an estimate. There was no meter on the dash, either. When we arrived at my hotel I was shocked at the price-$144.38. My trip with Uber to the hotel on 9/7 has only been $46.96. I couldn't understand why the cost was so much higher, when the distance was the same. I mentioned that there was no meter, and the driver got extremely defensive about it. He then pressured me to include a tip, and there was no way I could see to decline the option. The total cost was $171.84. I spoke with the hotel concierge about this, and he said that the cab driver was in violation. First, all cab drivers are required to give an estimate of the cost of the trip beforehand. Second, they must have a meter on the dash in full view of the passenger at all times. Considering that the driver violated both of these requirements, I don't think I should have to pay this amount. If the driver had told me the cost beforehand, I would have refused and booked an Uber instead. I am only willing to pay $50. I have documentation because I tried to dispute this with ***************** and they obtained a copy.
