This thrift store has very unique items, but its manager Amy is very rude when dealing with a situation her staff created.
My wife and I purchased a room divider on a Sunday and asked that the item be held until we had the correct vehicle to transport the item. We were told that was not a problem. However, two days later, on the day in which my wife drove across the Mississippi from St. Louis to Waterloo, IL to pick-up the item, she was informed the item had been sold to another customer. We pulled the price tag from the item and were told that a hold ticket would be placed on the item.
When I called the store, all Amy did was accuse me of yelling at her. I did not. I was the party that was remaining calm. It was my desire to get direct answers on how this situation occurred from the manager of the store. My wife says she was confused when she was told our item was put on hold, but it was still sold and that the store had now changed its policy to no longer place a piece on hold. My wife felt Amy was telling her this was a long running problem, but it took a couple from out of town to make her aware of the situation.
When I spoke with Amy, she did not allow me to communicate with her. All I wanted to ask was if she and her staff could keep a look out for another divider. She sternly told me that this was not possible. Though in the past year, I have seen two dividers in the store which were in great condition. This includes the one that was sold out from under us.
Amy wanted my wife and I to consider her refund as the solution that worked for both parties. I say it does not. She and her staff made a monumental mistake. However, Amy expects for the customer to deal with the consequences with little desire to make good or try to rectify the dilemma she and her staff created. This is very poor customer service. It is ironic that her store is named "helping hands."
While Amy's beneficiary deserves better, be aware when visiting this thrift store.
