We had a Jet Fan attic fan installed on 6/12/2024 at our home. It cost $1197 and came with a warranty that included 100% cost of repair/replacement for two years, incrementally decreasing in percentage covered as years pass. We are experiencing a leak from the fan into our attic that is causing damage to drywall in our guest bathroom. I have attempted to contact ****, the owner for three months now, with not so much as a call back or text in return. I dont know how much the damage will ultimately cost, but initially we were just calling to have the fan resealed.

    Hello ***** and Sarah *****,

The link takes you to several pictures that I took while looking for the leak. The first thing I discovered was that every stain near the fan was dry after 24 hours of rain it should be wet. I also noticed that when I installed the fan the sawzall blade touched the rafter and that spot where the blade touched the rafter was perfectly clean without stain and it was dry in an area that was stained from a previous leak. I noticed stains going up the rafter to the ridge from the previous leak.

I reached underneath the insulation at the point of the ceiling stains and found it wet. The bottom of the plumbing vent was wet top of the plumbing vent was dry. I started checking all the joints in the plumbing vent and found one joint that was  loose.

I noticed the way the 4-in plumbing vent that comes down from the roof penetration was piped such that the water would cling to the inside of the pipe follow it around into the horizontal piping above the ceiling. The drain waste vent tee after the offset coming down is turned upward which would allow water to follow the bend to horizontal pipes instead dripping down.

I don't believe it was glued properly because I don't believe that those joints should ever come apart when they are properly primed and glued.

I'm recommending that a professional plumber do the repair to be sure it's done properly.

    Sincerely,
    **** Tideman, "Jet Fan Man"
