    I hired Laura Soskin for interior design services. In my opinion, I had a negative experience with Laura. She sent me an invoice charging me for 9 texts, 7 emails in and 9 emails out at 1/4 hour each, which came to $937.50, including for text messages that said Okay no problem! We have time. Thank you! and I am here early if you are!? and Almost there. On the train. She charged me $112.50 for these three text messages. I told Laura that I care for two children with autism and that I did not have time to argue with her. I should not have told Laura about my family circumstances, because I believe she used this information against me. She wrote in a text message: Be smart here ***, Im sure you have better things to do with your time and money, right? She threatened me with her attorney fees: Our attorney fees will cost you much more than you care to spend. I filed a lawsuit against Laura alleging that she violated the consumer fraud act and breached our contract. I am not an attorney, and I represented myself pro se at trial, while Laura hired an experienced attorney to represent her. While I did not satisfy the burden of proof at trial, I still believe Laura behaved inappropriately, even though I was not able to prove in court that she broke any laws. The case documents are publicly available, and the case number is 2021 M1 ******, filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Municipal Department, First District. I encourage other consumers to review the case documents so they may be better informed and learn from my experience. I made the mistake of being **** and trusting and thinking that because a good friend had recommended Laura, I had nothing to worry about. Perhaps my experience with Laura was the exception, but I came away from this experience disappointed and with less faith in the goodness and kindness of people.
