    Homes by Huffman Charged both my roommate and I a full months deposit, we each Paid $795, for a total of $1,590. I also paid a $500 pet deposit and a week after it was paid my roommate decided he didn’t want the dog anymore and mind you they made us pay the pet deposit in full yet the dog was only there for 1.5 to 2 months total, and they said it’s non refundable and after the dog left we kept having to pay the $15 a month pet fee. Someone hit the garage with their car, the night it happened I was in the hospital in ********** Kentucky after suffering a major car wreck in ***** Indiana and having to be life flighted to **********. I turned everything into insurance yet homes by Huffman never bothered to contact my insurance company and is now trying to take the cost out on me and when it was covered. I also was burglarized at one point, there were some damages during, that afterwards homes by Huffman also did not bother to contact my insurance company about. I have a wife with whom I’ve been separated from, sometimes off and on, who does have some mental health issues, and unsure what communication occurred between my wife and The owner ***** *******, but my wife really didn’t have any good intentions, and I think she may have tried to sway minds I don’t know. But i have the past communications, and during a conversation one day my wife talked about her rehab director and ***** being friends or something, anyways it was information a person who is familiar with another or had recently interacted would know about and I’m trying to make sure that the company doesn’t hold me or my room mate financially responsible for things we filed claims with our renters insurance on, that homes by Huffman never bothered to fix possibly because my wife who has mental disabilities wanted him to make me pay not insurance, when that wasn’t right, only to try and see me fail. Legally they can charge one deposit, but won’t return the other, unsure why’s. $2090 in total deposit.

    Complainant and a roommate rented a unit and paid a deposit of $795. The complainant and roommate were given notice to vacate after it was discovered from a work order that the house was being destroyed and had multiple doors and over 9 holes in the walls throughout the house. The Complainant and roommate failed to pay their final month of rent which is a default of their lease agreement. Indiana State Law requires landlords to return deposits or explanation of charges within 45 days. Due to the large amount of damages, the property owner is requiring our office to file suit in the Vanderburgh County Court.
