      On 4/5/2024 I hired 2 Buddies Garage to replace an engine in my Hyundai Sonata. On 4/12/24 the car was returned to me and all services were paid in full. A total of $1,486.08 for parts and labor, plus an additional $4,488.85 for the engine. The check engine light was on in the car and the car was running poorly. **** stated that he spoke to the company the engine was purchased from, LKQ, and they told him it was the high pressure fuel system and that once it was replaced, the car would be fine. I paid an additional $554.85 for the fuel system and **** replaced it. Per LKQ, they never had a conversation with ****. On 4/17 the car was still running poorly and **** stated that it needed to have the crank shaft positioning censor replaced. He came to my house and replaced it. On 4/25 the engine over heated and the car died on Preston Highway. **** and ****** picked up the car and said it needed a new thermostat and housing. **** replaced it and said the car would be ok but the check engine light never went off and the car ran poorly. On 6/28 the engine overheated again and this time died on the expressway. **** and ****** picked up the car for the final time on 6/28 and said the new engine was bad and he would call LKQ to get a replacement. This was never done and they still have my car. 2 Buddies garage stated that they were paid to install the engine and that work was completed and any other complaints or issues with the car were to be resolved with LKQ the engine company. LKQ states that 2 buddies did nothing they asked of them that was needed in order to carry out a replacement/refund. Andrew Koncz the sales manager for LKQ has been in constant contact with me letting me know that 2 buddies has not followed through with any of their company request and procedure. 2 Buddies Garage now will not return any messages from myself or LKQ and have completely ignored and cut all contact with all parties involved. I am out $6,539.58 and have not seen my car since 6/28.

      Dear BBB,
      We appreciate the opportunity to respond to this complaint. The customer hired us to install an engine they purchased from LKQ. We provided a quote, and the customer chose to order the engine themselves, understanding that we were not responsible for any issues with parts they sourced.
      We began the installation on April 5, 2024, after receiving the engine, which arrived with faulty injectors. We informed the customer, and upon their request, we ordered and replaced the injectors. After completing the installation and subsequent repairs, including addressing a thermostat issue, the customer expressed satisfaction with the car's performance as of April 22, 2024.
      The customer experienced recurring issues, including overheating and check engine lights. We responded promptly, even traveling to their home to service the vehicle. However, by June 28, 2024, after putting over 6,000 miles on the engine, the car experienced overheating again. We advised the customer to decide whether they wanted to pursue a replacement engine or a refund from LKQ, but they delayed making a decision.
      As the engine was purchased by the customer, we cannot initiate or guarantee any refund from LKQ. Our responsibility was the installation, which was completed successfully. Despite numerous attempts to contact the customer and return their vehicle, we have received no response.
      We are willing to facilitate communication between the customer and LKQ, but they must resolve the issue directly with LKQ, as they purchased the engine. The customer can reach LKQ at ************** with Claim Number *********
