In April of 2018, Lewis Plumbing, Heating, & Hardware, *** ** ****** **** **** ******* ** *****, installed the heating and air conditioning system in my house purchased from Century Homes of Haubstadt, Indiana, and located at ***** ******** **** ********** *******. One component of that system was a Goodman heat pump which had a base limited warranty period of five years, but would have had a registered limited warranty period of ten years if it had been properly registered. I fully expected that the installer had done the proper registration as their responsibility to the buyer and to Century Homes.
On June 3, 2023, ***** Heating and Air of *********, Indiana, diagnosed the heat pump unit failure such that the repair would be more costly than replacement. It was discovered that the heat pump had not been registered for the registered warranty period. On June 8, ***** installed a new heat pump at a cost of $3435.66.
****, of Lewis Plumbing, Heating, & Hardware, was contacted on June 12, and informed of this situation. He told my father, ***** ****, that he would check his records and reply by phone. Mr. **** attempted contact again on 6/28 and 6/29 leaving a voice message that a reply was still expected. Getting no reply, he then talked to a company secretary on 8/22, 9/5, & 9/12 who said she would let the owners know that we are expecting an explanation of the failure of the installer to register the equipment.
Since there has still been no response, we are holding Lewis Plumbing, Heating, & Hardware responsible for the failure to do the warranty registration and expect to be compensated for the cost of replacing the heat pump.
