We contracted with Doolittle to rebuild our home after a total loss housefire. Over the course of the project we have struggled with very poor communication, errors, false timelines, poor planning/organization, poor quality of certain aspects of the work, etc. Most recently, we have moved into the home with the understanding that the home would be fully ready aside from a final walk through and identifying little minor adjustments (paint touch **** loose register, little things) we would blue tape. Upon move in scheduled for 5pm on 4/11 we showed up to the stair treads just starting to be stained so our kids had to walk outside and around the house to go between up and downstairs, temp front door still screwed shut, no hot water to most of the house, no garage door opener, no washer/dryer, etc. Painters came unexpectedly the next am without knocking, took over the garage to paint the exterior doors/garage so we had to move carrying everything around the back of the house and in. That is how we were set up to move. There are still many unresolved issues. These include irrigation system damages caused by Doolittle, no master bathroom door/no resolution despite continued inquires with the project manager, requests for the owner to call us directly and cut out the middle man, no timeline updates despite repeated requests, other general repairs still needing done, and a continued lack of organization and planning. The project manager tends to pick and choose certain things to focus on and disregards questions or information requests about others. We can't achieve proper communication. Additionally, the majority of the quality of work issues are components the project manager directly did, and suddenly he is changing from the irrigation comp to himself repairing that and we prefer professionals. Our desired settlement would include a combination of refund/billing adjustment, finishing the job, repairs/replacements, and proper communication/contact with the business.Business Response

We are much closer to finalizing the punch list. I am the project manager for this client and I made the decision to allow them to move in a little early (although I had the local building inspector additional grace to do so ) because the ********* had lost there temporary housing.
We are taking care of the final punch list and waiting on a few items from manufacturers that had to be returned for replacement .Customer Answer

At this time, I am not satisfied with the efforts made by Doolittle Enterprises and do not agree to close this complaint. While there has been some limited progress since our 5/19/25 meeting with the owner, a large portion of the agreed-upon punch list remains incomplete. Additionally, issues of poor workmanship, inconsistent communication, and lack of follow-through continue to be ongoing concerns. To date, approximately *************************************************** started, however, this minimal progress does not reflect the businesss commitment to have 90% of the punch list completed by 5/23/25. Furthermore, some new damage has been introduced during attempted fixes, which has added new unresolved items to the list. As of today, at least ****************************** were newly damaged and now require attention including continuing to be living without a bathroom door; significant remaining paint touch-**** workmanship issues with the stair rails/treads; damaged garage entry door, non-functional master closet organizer, missing base, etc. The project manager frequently misses scheduled days, fails to notify us of schedule delays/changes or material issues, and often ignores specific questions or concerns. Mr. ********************** initially followed up after our meeting and referenced the BBB complaint hoping to still receive a good review, but has since gone silent, including on budget-related questions. His recent BBB response stating he is unavailable until 6/21/25 is concerning, given the number of unresolved issues and his prior commitment to see this through. Given the number of outstanding tasks, new issues, and the continuing pattern of unreliable communication and project mismanagement, I continue to need BBB support. My desired outcome remains: a combination of completing all repairs and corrections, appropriate financial adjustments where warranted, and a direct, reliable communication channel to ensure the work is completed to a professional standard.Business Response

As of now, there are no major hold **** We were waiting for incorrectly manufactured windows for the master bathroom. We ordered said replacements, and they were incorrect a second time. This falls on the manufacturer and is proven by the fact that we have not been charged for any of replacements.
The homeowners were allowed to move in ahead of any subs doing their final punch list. It has been time consuming trying to work in an occupied house, but everyone, in clouding the homeowners, have been adapting schedules to get things ironed out.
The homeowner also opted to use ****** for cabinetry. ****** is outside our normal network and with large box stores we have no leverage or clout. This was done for budget reasons. This choice worked but comes with other challenges. We've been in contact with them to get the issues resolved. Unfortunately, ****** uses a sub-contractor, and we must go through paperwork processing and scheduling. This is why I prefer not to use box stores.
We are in the "touch up" phase and have done multiple aspects of this job that were not within our scope or within our budget. But we continue to forge forward and try to accommodate the homeowner. We see this project wrapping up soon.Business Response

We acknowledge that two itemsthe master-bath windows and certain cabinet componentsare delayed by their manufacturers.
However, the rest of the punch list is unrelated to those products. Items such as stair-rail caulking, paint drips, damaged trim, missing base in the garage, deck-rail replacement, irrigation fixes, and many interior touch-*** could have been finished long ago. Their status reflects inconsistent scheduling and limited on-site supervision, not supply shortages.
Much of the overall delay stems from project manager turnover, negligence in ordering materials (such as windows and doors), installation errors requiring rework (e.g., the master bathroom door was installed ***ide down and ruined), and poor coordination of subcontractors. These are management and execution issuesnot circumstances outside your control.
Regarding cabinetry, we did not opt for Lowes independently. Mr. ********************** guided us there after the original cabinet and countertop allowances in the quote proved unrealistically low. The first supplier he referred us to confirmed that budget could not be met, so it is misleading to frame our use of Lowes as the source of delays.
Your suggestion that we were moved in early due to loss of housing is inaccurate. Our temporary housing was still available. We moved in on April 11, 2025, because you provided that as a firm dateafter numerous prior delaysand told us everything would be complete except for minor touch-***.
If the project is truly near completion, we request:
(1) A firm final completion date, and
(2) A written schedule of the remaining work.
We ask that the company commit to this timeline so we can move forward and close this matter on a positive note.
