ON 02/19/2025 I WENT TO EURO MOTORWORKS TO ASK A PRICE ON REPLACING THE BATTERY ON A SOS MALFUNCTION MESSAGE AT WHICH TIME THE MANAGER I WAS SPEAKING WITH WENT TO TALK TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AND THE MANAGER SAID WE COULD FIX THE PROBLEM WHICH WOULD BE $165-$200. I STATED AGAIN YOU CAN FIX THE ISSUE FOR THAT PRICE AGAIN I WAS TOLD YES. I THEN MADE A APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE WORK DONE ON 02/25/2025 FOR THE $165-$200 ONLY TO FIND OUT EURO MOTORWORKS WANT TO CHARGE ME $1400 TO FIX THE ISSUE NOW. THE ISSUE I HAVE IS I WAS TOLD ONE PRICE TO FIX NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM ESPECIALLY SINCE THE ISSUE HAD ALREADY BEEN DIAGNOSED. I JUST WOULD LIKE TO HAVE MY MONEY REIMBURSED TO I WAS TOLD THE PRICE WAS TO FIX NOT DIAGNOSE. I WOULD NOT HAVE JUST GAVE UP $200 FOR A DIAGNOSIS THATS ALREADY BEEN DONE.

Mr. ***** stopped by our shop a week or two ago and asked whether we could fix an *** Warning Light on a ***. He stated that he was test driving the car he was in and was on his way back to the dealership to return it to them. Mr. ***** asked for an estimate to repair the light so he could talk to the dealership about covering the cost. I told him that we could fix the *** Warning Light, but that it could be caused by several things like an antenna, a battery, a control module, a wiring issue, etc., we just didn't know what the actual cause of the Warning Light was yet. He said he had been reading online that it might be the *** system battery, which I agreed that's one of the potential causes, but we had no way of knowing yet if that was it. I told Mr. ***** that it would cost between $165 - $275 to Diagnose what the cause of the light was and then we would provide him with an estimate for the actual repair costs. Mr. ***** left with the car at that time.

About 80% of the Diagnostics we do on cars ends up costing in the $165 - $275 range, so that is our standard estimate to Clients, unless we know ahead of time that it's going to be a more complicated issue that is going to require more time and cost more. This is a conversation we have with Clients every single day.

When Mr. ***** dropped off his car on the morning of 2/25, I checked him in and I reviewed with him that we were going to be Testing for the *** Warning Light, that the cost for Diagnostics would be in the $165 to $275 range, and that we would call him with the estimate for repairs once we had looked at his car. He said that was ok. When our staff called him later in the day with the Diagnostic Results and the estimate for repairs, he started claiming that I told him we could fix the Warning Light for $200, which I never did. I explicitly told him that there could be various components causing the issue and we wouldn't know which one it was or what the cost would be until we did testing. There is no way I could have estimated a cost for a repair, when we didn't know which component had actually failed. When he came in to pick up his car, he continued to claim that I told him it would be $200 to fix his car, which I continued to remind him of the conversation we had at his first visit when I specifically told him we had no way of knowing what was causing the light and therefore could not have given him an estimate to fix it until we did testing. He threatened to report us to the Better Business Bureau, which we said he was welcome to do.

There are occasions where we do provide written estimates for routine maintenance items like oil services and brake jobs, or if someone contacts us and says 'the dealer told me 'x' needs to be replaced, what would your cost be' and then we'll provide an estimate for repairs based on the dealer's diagnostics. But in a situation when the car has not yet been looked at by us or any other shop and the cause of the issue has not yet been Diagnosed by any shop, it is just not possible to provide a client with an estimate for repairs and we do not estimate repairs with no known cause.

I DONT AGREE DUE TO THE **** I ALREADY HAD A DIAGNOSIS AND EXPLAINED IT TO EURO MOTORWORKS AT WHICH TIME THE MANAGER STATED HE WAS NOT A *** PERSON HE WAS A ******** PERSON AND WANTED TO ASK THE SERVICE MANAGER. THE MANAGER THEN CAME BACK STATING THEY COULD FIX THE PROBLEM NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSIS THAT WAS THE SAME. I FEEL THEY SHOULD AT LEAST SPLIT THE COST.

We were originally told by Mr. ***** that he 'had read on ******' that the cause of the *** Light might be the battery, not that the issue had been previously diagnosed by any other shop or company. Since the cause of the warning light was still unknown, we only offered to perform testing to identify the actual cause and did provide any estimate to repair an unknown.

Our position to Mr. ******* statement has not changed.
