On Friday, October 28, 2022, I took my 2015 Dodge Charger R/T in the morning to Malless Auto at *********************** in ************ for a brake inspection. Completing their inspection, they returned the car in the afternoon. Being handy with car repairs, I decided to do the brake job myself in the next week.On Nov 2, I went to start the repair and noticed damage to the passenger-side rocker panel, a plastic trim piece that runs under the car between the wheels. The damage appears to have been caused by a **** or lift arm, as there are marks in the shape of a square's corners and centered within a hole punched into the plastic. The damage is near the rear wheel, centered approximately 5 inches away from the vehicle lift point, consistent with an incorrectly placed **** or lift. There is no abrasion on the paint, indicating that the damage did not occur while the vehicle was in motion. The damage is completely underneath the vehicle, which is why I did not notice it when the shop returned the car.I called Malless on Nov 4 to report the damage, and then I later returned to the shop on Nov 11 to show them the actual damage, following my return from out of town. Malless' pre-work inspection records confirm that there was no damage when their technician began the inspection. However, they refuse to take responsibility, insisting that they must first be able to prove to themselves that they caused the damage. After we received the car, it was only in our driveway under 24-hour recorded video surveillance or parked in locations where it would not have been the target of an attempted wheel theft, the only other possible (albeit highly implausible) explanation for the damage. The logical conclusion is that a Malless technician caused the damage and refuses to come clean.Because Malless refuses to take responsibility, my insurance is forced to pay for the repairs, which will cost approximately $1200.
