I wish I had done more research prior to attempting to open an account at this ********************************************* for the following reasons:1. This credit union performs a HARD inquiry at account opening which is extremely unusual. Typically, at most financial institutions it's a soft inquiry at account opening and hard inquiries are reserved for applying for credit. It didn't affect my credit as much as it would others, but this could be detrimental depending on your circumstances.2. The account opening process online failed on the funding page. When I called to figure out if I had an account, throughout my call with a contact center representative I was directed to go to my nearest branch since they couldn't give personal information over the phone for online banking, funding the account, and even for closing this account. Eventually I was able to have the unfunded account closed on the phone but overall the experience was terrible.Overall, in a highly competitive market for a financial institution, I am uninterested in having to go in person for my banking needs, and I am very put off with the hard credit inquiry. There was nothing that distinguished hard/soft inquiry at account opening that stood out and finding it out afterwards was incredibly frustrating. If you choose to trust this institution with your finances and credit I would strongly suggest reading the fine print, skipping the contact center, and go into your local branch.
