I recently contacted Northern Comfort Systems (******* Heating and ************************* to repair my air conditioning unit on June 22, 2025, during an extreme summer heatwave. The temperature that day soared to 95 degrees, with a heat index reaching a stifling 104 degrees. Despite these challenging circumstances and the added complexity of it being a Sunday, I was pleasantly surprised by the companys prompt and attentive service.Upon arrival the Technician immediately began accessing the unit inside the house and outside as well. This is when everything quickly went south! The Technicians objective was clearly one of replacing the unit rather than repairing it. He presented me with two options. One was what he referred to as a band aid repair at a cost of $8,000 or option two which was to replace the unit at a cost of $16,000. I replied that I was not interested in either of these options. The technician then informed me that the replacement of the fan motor on the unit which was not working would cost $1200. The motor will take a few days, but if I purchased a new heat pump it would be installed the next day. At this point I informed the technician that I would have to get a second opinion before proceeding any further. While the review concludes here, it is worth emphasizing that the technician did not check the capacitor on the unit which would have completed the necessary repair at a cost of $50. It is my opinion that the technicians choice of not checking the capacitor which would have completed the necessary repair was intentional to allow added pressure for me to purchase a new heat pump unit. Thus, the purpose of the technicians visit was to sell a new heat pump unit, not repair it! As a side note I had to contact another company and pay the emergency service call fee. Which is how I found the capacitor needed replacing, not the motor.
