02/08/202 - Was referred to business by primary care provider - Scheduled myself an appointment - Wife had gone previously within the week - We have ***************** through my wife - we have strict instructions not to have our military identification scanned as it is a sensitive document and not to be scanned - we are both military veterans and in the Indiana National Guard - I myself am a disabled veteran - through tricare with civilian doctors we have advised to run tricare claims for insurance through my wifes DOD ID number and her Social Security number During my scheduled appointment this morning during check in it was discovered that unknown to my wife, her military ID card was scanned without her knowledge by the business. I advised that shouldnt have happened and advised them they were supposed to run the insurance through the advised numbers above. A heavy set, obese, white female with short brown hair continued to rudely argue that I would be charged kick back fees from Tricare and their company because we didnt have a card for them to scan. I felt discriminated as a military veteran seeking healthcare all for the fact that they would not take the time to run the insurance the way I advised and that this occurs every time civilian healthcare is involved with *****************. Her unprofessional behavior continued with rudely and nonchalantly telling the front secretary to just check him in before leaving the front desk area. I clearly expressed my disdain and promptly cancelled my appointment for the discrimination I felt, all because there was no care, consideration, or attempt in processing *****************. No veteran or user of ***************** should deal with such unprofessional behavior along with my wifes military ID card being scanned without her knowledge.

    Business Response

    Date: 02/08/2024

First and foremost, I do apologize that the patient(s) were not treated kindly by the staff, I will discuss this with the direct supervisor in the office.

As a healthcare facility we are directed by Tricare to obtain military ID and are allowed to photocopy for processing insurance claims, see attached.

I also have attached information from the *** that states the law regarding photocopying does not pertain to Hospitals and or Healthcare facilities.

Please let me know if you need further information or clarification.
