I recently moved into a home owned by my ex in laws after a court case involving who should reside in home. I was granted to dwell at the property and I was to be able to have utilities etc put in my name prior to moving in. I attempted this and the jasonville utilities company refused to turn my water on until i paid his past due bill cause I use to be married to him. I was not married to him at the time the bill was accumulated and it was not in our divorce as it was before he lived at that address. They said that they dont generally require new tenants to pay past bills but since i use to be married to him they expect me to pay his bill.

We refused utility service to ******** *** *********************************************************, IN   47438 for several reasons. One being a back owed bill of $1,604.18, two the unlawful use of water, we turned that service off for non payment and the residents turned it back on and we had to remove the meter, three no documentation supporting her claim of being divorced and being the sole resident of the house in question. There has been no court documents supporting any of her claims. We  believe she is still living there with her husband and is trying to get utilities turned on fraudulently. We have also searched MyCase, ******* and have seen several cases of non payment and eviction notices.

We feel we are within our rights to deny service to this person.
