12/29/22 purchased **** ****** Baja $13899.63 vehicle was recently undercoated. We personally inspected vehicle while it was up on rack . it was completely covered with black oil undercoating. 03/01/23 Took vehicle to mechanic for oil change and mechanic discovered undercoating coming off, exposing existing rust that we were not told about and unaware of. the oil drip we were told that was from previous oil change was a boot that was cracked on axle that we replaced as well. 03/03/23 called dealership talked to *********************** to complain about the rust coming through undercoating. we told him we felt it was hidden from us. he asked if we wanted new undercoating or our money back on vehicle. we said we wanted our money back. he had to discuss with his boss and would call us back. 03/07/23 ***** called back and said he could give us $6000 for the Baja on trade for another vehicle on their lot. we declined that offer. 03/14/23 we called ***** again to convey our dissatisfaction about the rust on vehicle. he said we could bring vehicle in for an appraisal for trade on another vehicle on their lot. he also stated that they did not force us to do anything , that we spent 2 hours inspecting the undercarriage, that we could have taken to our mechanic that was an hour away and that it WAS a 20 year old vehicle. then stated that certain vehicles were prone to rust including Jeeps and ****** pickups that they undercoat in the same way as well. at first appearance the Baja is a nice vehicle but we would not have paid that price if we would have known about the hidden rust underneath. our mechanic said that we might get 2 to 4 years before things start breaking especially in the more severe areas. we spent a total of about 2-3 hours at dealership between the inspection, test drive and paperwork. we feel they were deceptive about the underneath rust. we were told about the engine swap they did because original engine was making a funny noise and they gave the car fax.

    Business Response

We appreciate you reaching out to us on this issue.  However, we have gone above and beyond trying to come up with solutions to help.  As you have stated, we offered to purchase the vehicle back, to trade you out of it, or to have it re-undercoated.  We have even offered to trade you into another like vehicle.  The vehicle was purchased and signed As-Is with no warranty.  As you also mentioned we gave ample opportunity to inspect the vehicle, even allowing you to have your own mechanic inspect the vehicle.  In no way were we trying to hide any damage or be deceptive.
