Dear LowCountry Management,Today, my family and I dined at your Merrillville, ******* location and unfortunately experienced extremely unsanitary conditions that ruined our visit. While seated and waiting for our food, we were swarmed by flies. Within two minutes of our meal arriving, a fly landed directly in one of the dishes. We immediately alerted the person we believed to be the manager, who asked what we would like to do. She then stated she needed to get her actual manager to address the issue and potentially compensate us. We waited approximately 10 minutes before anyone returned, and it took nearly 20 minutes before the actual manager finally approached **** which time we had already relocated to a different area of the restaurant. Shockingly, as the manager was speaking with us, a gnat was visibly crawling across the table. While we were eventually compensated for the one contaminated meal, the entire dining experience was compromised. The presence of flies and gnats while food was being served constitutes a serious health and sanitation concern. According to the ********************************** (410 IAC 7-24), food establishments must be free of pests and insects, which includes controlling the presence of rodents, insects, and other vermin (Sec. 112 & 431). Serving food in an environment infested with flies and gnats is a direct violation of these health codes.Additionally, when we opted to take our meals to go, our food was not properly packaged and we had to request basic items like bags and utensils ourselves. At that point, the quality and safety of our meals were already in question. While we appreciated the partial compensation, we firmly believe we should have been fully compensated for all meals given the unsanitary conditions and overall disruption of our dining experience. The owner responded I was a problem and refund. Not realizing I was in the email. Ignoring the sanitation issues. I want an apology and problem fixed
