Bill Crabtree Silver Labs deserves zero stars. We purchased a male silver lab in the Spring of '2020. He was euthanized two days ago - on 02/18/2023. The first issue that we noticed with him was an underbite. That would turn out to be the least of our problems. An emergency vet visit after an apparent leg injury allowed us to see the true health issues within his body. He was not even 3 years old and his body was riddled with arthritis - so much that they couldn't believe how bad it was due to his young age. He had arthritis all along his spine and throughout his rib cage. They said he only had one normal vertebrae because the rest of them were fused together. They stated that he was very likely inbred due to the severity of his health issues. What we initially thought was a sprained leg or foot injury for his left leg proved to be essentially the bones breaking apart as if they disintegrated, and then we could see on the x-ray that his right leg was bone on bone within the knee area. I cannot imagine the pain that he must've been in and I am thankful that we had medications to help ease the pain during the last week that he was with us. He spent his last several days drugged, not eating, drinking very little, without bowel movements, and lethargic. Our vet stated that his quality of life would continue to deteriorate and we would eventually lose him sooner than later. We chose to humanely euthanize his in order to stop his suffering. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family. I have an 8 year old daughter who watched her favorite pup die. This is something that will be with her for the rest of her life. It will be with all of us for the rest of our lives. We knew from his appearance that their were issues with his health, however, we did not know that we would not even have 3 years with him. His death could not be prevented, but I hope to save other families from the same pain that we are experiencing right now. RIP my baby boy.
