In 2010, we bought our first home through Schuler Bauer in Sellersburg, Indiana. It was new construction, and the agent convinced us to skip a home inspection, claiming it wasn’t needed since the house had already passed state and city inspections. We trusted them and waived the inspection—our biggest mistake.
Not long after moving in, cracks appeared on the walls. The builder, also tied to Schuler Bauer, assured us it was just "settling" and patched the drywall. Over the years, the cracks returned, light fixtures fell, the sump pump ran constantly, and the backyard landscaping kept dying. They repeatedly dismissed our concerns as normal settling.
Now, 14 years later, we’ve discovered the foundation is cracked, the home was built over an underground stream, and the drainage system was inadequate. The builder knew about these issues during construction but ignored them. We are now facing $70,000 in foundation repairs with no recourse because the statute of limitations has passed.
Schuler Bauer’s negligence and dishonesty turned our dream home into a financial nightmare.
