At the end of March, I called and informed the office that I needed a storage unit for the month of April for the benefit of a local nonprofit fundraiser. I was informed I would have to rent it beginning March 25 even though I didn't need it until April 1. I agreed to pay for the extra week in March that I didn't need, just so it would be available for when I needed it in April. I told them though that I only needed it for the month of April. They sent me something to sign and I signed it.

I had rented a storage unit and signed the same agreement last year under the same discussion and had no problem. After the month of use last year, for the same nonprofit fundraiser, the unit was automatically discontinued and my deposit was refunded.

This year, I received on May 6 a payment reminder by text for the month of May. I called to remind them that I only needed it for the month of April. The lady that answered was very rude and informed me there was nothing she could do and that I would have to pay the entire month of May, which was another $50. I informed her that I didn't need a storage unit for May and did not want to pay another $50. She stated she would just send me to collections then and said she would make a note to never rent a unit to me or the non-profit again. I offered to pay the 6 days of May, but she said she would not prorate the month of May.

Also, the owner breached its duties. The units are supposed to be secured, but the security gate was broken at some point and the property was not secured. In addition, the agreement states a statement would be sent 15 days prior to the due date, but no statement was sent.

I am simply requesting the owner agree not to charge an additional $50, to return the $20 security deposit, remove any late charges or any other fees that owner may have added that I do not know about, and if any report was made to a credit bureau that it be removed promptly.
