    MY 12 YEAR OLD SON HAD A REFERRAL FROM THE ORTHODONTIST, THAT I ATTACHED BELOW TO HAVE 4 BABY TEETH REMOVED AND EXPOSURE OF MAXILLARY CANINES AND BRACKETS ATTACHED TO ADULT TEETH. WHEN I FIRST CALLED TO SCHEDULE I DISCUSSED THE WHOLE PROCEDURE WITH HER. SHE SAID SHE HAD TO GIVE IT TO THE LADY TO CALL INSURANCE AND THAT LADY WOULD GET BACK WITH ME ABOUT AN OUT OF POCKET COST. SHE CALLED A WEEK LATER SAYING I WOULD OWE $1,500 TO $1,800 OUT OF POCKET DEPENDING ON HOW SEVERE THE EXTRACTIONS WERE. WHEN WE ARRIVED AT THE APPOINTMENT I SIGNED THE CONSENT FORM AND PAID THE $1852. IT TOOK THEM LESS THAN 30 MINUTES AND WHEN THEY WHEELED HIM OUT TO THE CAR THE ASSISTANT WAS GOING OVER THE AFTER CARE INSTRUCTIONS. I ASKED ABOUT THE CHAINS HANGING AND SHE SAID THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING LIKE THAT. WE WENT BACK IN AND THEY SHOWED ME THE REFERRAL AND SAID IT WAS THEIR FAULT THEY MISSED IT AND WANTED ME TO RESCHEDULE AND THAT THEY WOULDN'T CHARGE ME FOR THE ANESTHESIA AGAIN. I TOLD THEM THAT I LIVE AN HOUR AWAY AND WE ARE ALREADY MISSING WORK AND SCHOOL. THEY WERE ABLE TO BRING HIM BACK IN AND DO THE REST OF THE PROCEDURE, THEN TOLD ME I WOULD OWE $800 MORE BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T HAVE THAT IN MY ORIGINAL OUT OF POCKET PRICE. MY HUSBAND CALLED THEM THIS MORNING TO TELL THEM THAT IT'S THEIR FAULT AND WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY ANYMORE AND THEY TOLD HIM IT WAS REALLY MY FAULT BECAUSE I SIGNED THE CONSENT TO TREAT FORM. THEY THEN WENT ON TO SAY IT WAS EVERYONE'S FAULT BECAUSE THEY ALSO MISSED IT THE FIRST TIME. I DON'T BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE ANYMORE MONEY OUT OF POCKET FOR THEIR MESS UP. I CALLED A DIFFERENT DENTIST AND CASH PRICE IS $265 PER TOOTH TO HAVE IT REMOVED WITH NO SEDATION. I FEEL THEY ARE SEVERELY OVER CHARGING THE CUSTOMER.

    I called the same day I returned back to the office and spoke with the DAD of the patient and assured them we would not send any bills and apologized for the missed treatment that was supposed to be done by the other surgeon.  He was thankful I called.  I understand their frustration and my staff was also upset as we always strive to take very good care of the patient.  I will also submit that a refund to the patient will be done as to reduce their out of pocket expenses.
