I rented a skid steer on May 2, *********************************************************** the charge would be $275 + $20 trailer rental fee never offered me a contract to sign or gave any thing to me. when I went out to load the skid steer the owner (****) came out and loaded it he paid particular attention to the condition of the machine he shook his head because the cab was bent and the head light was falling off someone had duct taped it back up. When I got home I moved some small brush into a burn pile and pushed some bigger brush over the hill behind my home. The headlight fell off the first hour of use I placed it in the cab, the next day a brush cover that was only secured with one bolt fell off so I placed it in the cab as well. I used the machine around a few hours a day as I didnt have any more time because of work to use it. On Monday May 6, 2024 I had to work so my college age son returned the machine for me he said the owner came out of the building accusing us of tearing up his machine my son explained to him that it is in the same condition as when we rented it. **** jumped in the machine and unloaded it in such a rush that my truck rear end jumped up in the air and the truck actually moved side ways my rear end is now making squalling noise and my leaf spring is broke. I called and spoke with **** from work on May 6 he accused me of tearing up the machine I reminded him of how he was mad about the condition it was in when I rented it, he would not listen and said he was turning it in to my home owners that I refused to give him. Fast forward to yesterday over 30 days later June 17, 2024 I receive an invoice via email showing that DIY (****) has kept a copy of my card on file that I did not give permission to do and has charged my debit card for over $1600 now I am short money to make my house payment I would have never authorized this transaction if he had called me. This is fraud and I will be making a police report, also notifying my bank.

So everything ********************* stated is the furthest thing from the truth other than I personally checked this unit out for him.  The customer paid for an eight (8) hour rental of run acutal run time  to be used from May 3rd through May 6th @ 10am.  And the customer was responsible for the refueling and the damages that *** occur.

I showed him the operation of the machine, where to replace the fuel by touching the fuel cap that was on the machine when he left.  I noted the current hours and fuel level on his paperwork prior to him leaving.  The machine is a heavy machine and it did lift the rear of his truck up when loading and unloading but that is not to anyone's mistake.  Just the sheer weight outweighs the vehicle so it is going to happen every time unless the customer has a heavier vehicle.

When the equipment was returned the on the 6th his son did in fact bring it back and I was the one that did unloaded it again.  Before I even started the unloading process I pointed out the obvious damages that were done.  (I will include pictures with this email)

Machine was also brought back with 12 actual runtime hours.  (left with 1695, returned with 1707).  So that was an additional day charge.   Hour meter cannot be tampered with to change those values,

Fuel level when taken was full.  When returned was at 1/2 of a tank.

    1. Fuel cap was missing.

    2. ******** guard was broke off but still laying in the machine, which ****** stated it was missing when he picked it up, which is a blatant lie considering it was still stuck on the machine.

    3. Headlight was completely busted off

    4. cab was bent upward on the roof line

    5. Fresh marks all over the machine from what I assume are trees that had hit the unit.   None of which he was billed for.

    6.  Both Hand rails climbing into the cab were smashed which I had just had fixed and were also marked up with the same color rubs on them.

    7.  Unit is still in the shop due to fuel system issues from the customer operating it without a fuel cap.  Again he was not or is not being charged for.

All of this except for line item 7 was disclosed to his son in a professional way prior to him leaving and I asked him to have his dad call me. Which he didnt!

This customer has posted lies on every social media or public forum possible. I work to hard for my family and this community to let someone come in with the attitude that   "Its a rental, who cares"  If he wouldve treated a rental car like that he would ve been paying for alot more damages than what he paid me for.

I will send pictures next.  Cant get them to load through the email from my phone

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined the response would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. The machine looked as it had been used in a war! I did not damage his machine as all I did was push brush into a burn pile. Check the terre haute chamber of commerce comments, BBB comments, and ******** this is his track record of ripping customers off and accusing them of braking his already broke down equipment. My freind used this skid steer the weekend before me the owner of DIY knows his ex wife who I have evicted from my commercial property. He is making up everything he states and I hope no one has to go through what have went through. He took money out of my account over a 30 day period, against my approval up to $1600 and has kept a copy of my card that I have now canceled. He has stated that he is not rich like me to myself on the phone and my son I am a federal officer with the Bureau of prisons I am not a rich man. Because of him taking money out of my account I cannot make my house payment and now it is late. I had just returned from vacation when I found out he had been charging my checking that I use for my house payment by using my card he illegally kept a copy of as I signed nothing giving him approval. I have resorted to social media for help and have found out that this is his track record.
