Car was towed because of an accident on 7/28 around 2-3pm. Officer called tow company. I was hospitalized until Sunday 7/30. On monday 7/31 I called the tow company because by drivers license and bank card were attached to my key ring that they had. Was told I could not get anything but prescription eyeglasses or medication until $480 fee was paid. I live 2 hours away. Had to go there and pay cash to get only my keys and ID wallet attached to keys Doesn't this amount exceed the maximum amount allowed to be charged as well as is it not illegal to withhold my items? I read ******* law is they can only charge $150 plus $30 per day for storage not to start until 24 hours after vehicle arrives at the lot. I should have only been charged $210. I feel I am owed $270 back It would not let me submit an email in the previous page I can be emailed at *****************************

    Business Response

    Date: 08/01/2023

    Hello,

Regarding the message above: On 7/28/2023 ******** Service Center responded to a car accident where the driver was driving in the southbound lane on I65, crossed the median went into the cables and the northbound side and than went into the northbound deep ditch. This was NOT just a tow, it was a extensive recovery accident that took two tow trucks to complete. The driver/owner had insurance but only liability so therefor insurance will not cover the accident that happened on 7/28/2023.

******** Service Center was more than willing to help her out by not charging any storage on the vehicle as well as half off the recovery bill.

When the owner called asking about her car and belongings. We explained to her there is a outstanding bill due to her not having the proper insurance coverage. We never told her that we would not let her have her items, we just needed to know what the plans were with the car long-term. When the owner came to clean out the vehicle she and 2 of her friends both checked into the office and signed liability release form to go into the lot where the car was being stored.  An employee from Farneys Service Center went back to the car with her and her friends so she was able to clean the vehicle out completely. The customer got cash and paid the $480 and gave us permission to dispose of her car.
