On July 8, 2024, around 4:40pm my Chevrolet Equinox was taken to Pioneer Quick Lubes for an oil change. I am a repeat customer and have been taking my car to this location since 2020. They took my vehicle back and claimed to do the oil change as normal, and charged me for an oil change, oil, a filter, and for the disposal of the old oil. I have attached the receipt they provided after completing the service. My car had, had a check engine light on for a while so in an attempt to get a reading of the codes my car was driven no more than 17 blocks before returning home and noticing my vehicle was driving funny. In the morning when I started my vehicle to leave, it took a couple of tries to get my engine to turn over and when it did it sounded similar to a lawn mower. A video can be provided of my car that allows you to hear when I was able to get it to start. Eventually I was told to check the oil and upon inspection there was no oil in the car. I got my father’s help to call corporate for me to get a complaint started with them and we were basically told to take it up with the store manager. The store manager called me to confirm my car on video then called me minutes late stating a tow truck would be picking up my.car. My car was then picked up around 1:45pm and no one reached out to me with information on my car until 4:47 stating there had been oil in the car and that I was going to be responsible for towing my still non drive-able car from their shop. When speaking to the corporate member we had started the complaint with I was spoken over and not listened to. I asked for the video proof of when oil was added to my car the original appointment day and was told I could only be given screenshots and that I would be out the money to not only tow my vehicle but to repair the damage that occurred to my car even though what they say is wrong with my car is the aftermath of being driven with no oil.

Please see the attached email response to ****** on 7-16-2024 and the attached pictures that were sent to as attachments to that email.  ******** claim that no oil was added or that the oil level was low is false.  She did not make a complaint to us until 7 days and 52 miles after the service.  That is not consistent with her claim of "17 blocks".  An engine that has no oil WILL NOT make it more than a few miles.  The video clearly shows oil being added.  The screen shots from the video clearly show oil being added.  There is no evidence of a catastrophic oil leak on her vehicle.  It appears to us that her timing chain is bad, which is consistent with the engine noise, the engine codes, and the 186,663 miles on the vehicle.  "driving funny" and difficulty starting is also a good indication of the engine no longer being in time.   When you read the email response sent to her you will see that she was told- "At this point there does not appear to be an indication that the problem with your vehicle is due to the service done at our facility.  That being the case we recommend that you have the vehicle towed to the repair facility that you prefer to perform repairs on your vehicle since you will likely be responsible for the repair.  If your repair facility does find that our service was at fault for the failure please contact us immediately so we can work with them to resolve responsibility.  If they complete the repair without giving us an opportunity to inspect the vehicle after determination of the failure, or dispose of parts that prove fault for the failure, we will not pay for the repair."  This was the last contact we had with ******.  As you can see we offered to work with her to determine fault, but she has not attempted to.  We are not going to make payment for any repair without proof of fault and that seems to be what she is after.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

My car was not driven 52 miles after the service, that’s quite literally almost impossible for how small this town is. I was unaware of the problem until the following day when I went to drive it and it wouldn’t start. My complaint was not filed until almost a week later because my last thought was to check to see if they put oil in my car, and it wasn’t until it was suggested I check that I discovered the problem and started the complaint process on a Saturday. I am repeat customer to this facility so screenshots of my car getting an oil change does not suffice when the time stamp doesn’t even match up with the receipt I was given. Even though they claimed they saw that they put oil on video they had my car towed to their facility. After hours of it being in their possession they said it had, had oil the whole time and it was a timing problem which is a known problem that is caused by no oil in a vehicle. After they claim “they weren’t at fault” I then had to pay additional money for my inoperable car to be towed back to my house because they refused to pay unless it was under their stipulations. I am not paying for this car to be towed multiple places and be worked on so they can come look at it and claim no responsibility.

For clarification the time stamp actually does match.  The reason there is a difference is because the point of sale system has a different time zone than the cameras.  Pioneer operates in 7 different states, 2 different time zones.  The receipt says 16:44 which is 4:44pm Central (5:44pm Eastern) which is when the transaction was billed out.  The camera time stamp says 5:26 pm which is Eastern Time where the server for the cameras is located.  The oil was added about 18 minutes before the transaction was billed out.  Ultimately though, this is all immaterial at this point.  You believe we made a mistake and caused the problem.  We believe the problem is a worn-out part that our service did not cause.  We both can argue the details of why we believe what we believe and none of it is actual proof.  Neither you nor we know with certainty what the actual problem with the car is.  The only way to resolve this is with proof of what is actually wrong with the car.  The only way to get proof is to take the car to a certified mechanic at a certified facility that is an independent 3rd party not associated with you or Pioneer.  They can do a diagnosis with a written determination including what they believe the failure is and what caused it.  If they determine that the cause is related to our service we need the opportunity to inspect their findings to determine if we agree or disagree.  If we agree then we will take action to make things right with you.  If we don't agree we are not going to pay and you still have the opportunity to Pioneer to court.  As it is currently there is no proof of exactly what the failure is and how it was caused.  We cannot offer to pay anything towards a failure that we do not believe we caused.
