Wouldn't buy or use these shingles on a house, Tamko refused to replace the roof due to it being 11 years old after admitting that the run of shingles used in my home was defective straight out of the factory. Argument was it lasted 10 years.. no it didn't. I had noticed the color variation on my roof several years prior and didn't think anything of it until my roofing contractor came out on a seperate issue next door and told me, I immediately asked to replace and was informed that 100s of roofs had already been in litigation and nothing ever was given. Yes I understand a warranty period is the rule but when you sell a product to the public that's defective they should be notified of that.TAMKO Building Products, LLC

TAMKO does not have a record of this reviewer filing a warranty claim with TAMKO. Claims may be initiated by sending an email to [email protected]. All warranty claims are handled in accordance with the applicable limited warranty that was in effect at the time of the purchase of TAMKO shingles. The limited warranty is available online at tamko.com, on marketing materials and printed on every bundle of TAMKO shingles so prospective customers can review the limited warranty as they consider which brand of shingles to purchase.Review fromMiranda B

Had a new roof put on in Sept of 23. Shingles wavy in some areas on my roof. Contractor was notified days after roof was placed. Contractor has been attempting to get Tamko to look at and fix the issue so the roof will get paid for. Now 12 days before it has been a full year they want to have a meeting. They are a joke.TAMKO Building Products, LLC

TAMKO provides a limited warranty with the purchase of TAMKO shingles which is printed on every wrapper and is also available online at tamko.com. The limited warranty provides a remedy for shingles which have manufacturing issues which result in leaks. The limited warranty does not cover items which are outside of TAMKO's control, such as installation issues, extreme weather events, etc. All claims are administered according to the terms of the limited warranty. Please take time to read all limited warranties on products you are considering buying so you are an informed buyer as you consider which products/brands to purchase.Review fromTim P

Hard to believe that Tamko is still selling this inferior product. I fall into the same category as the other reviewers listed one after the other as a second owner of my 9 year old home. Excessive grit loss and you can see sunlight through the shingles. This company should absolutely be ashamed of themselves and embarrassed by their product. The original owner wasn’t provided warranty documentation when she purchased from the builder and therefore it wasn’t transferred over to me. I do understand rules, however I also understand standing behind your product especially when it’s not an isolated incident. It’s consumer after consumer that have to suffer the consequences and major expense of this company that continues to sell substandard shingles. I read the responses on here from Tamko and it’s the same response word for word that I got from everyone one I spoke with at Tamko. Absolutely unbelievable that they are not being held accountable for their subpar materials. Please don’t bother leaving the same response Tamko Limited Liability Company!TAMKO Building Products, LLC

The language is the same because it is true and TAMKO is consistent in following the terms of the limited warranty to help ensure all TAMKO customers are treated the same and no one receives special treatment with regards to the limitations on transferability.
Like most manufacturers who provide a long-term limited warranty, TAMKO has limitations on the transferability of the limited warranty. TAMKO provides a limited warranty as part of the original sale of TAMKO shingles that provides a remedy in case of manufacturing defects which directly cause leaks. This limited warranty is printed on every package of TAMKO shingles so homeowners (and their contractors) can read the language of the limited warranty as they consider which brand of shingles to buy.
Notice of TAMKO’s limitation of the transferability (including the requirement to request the transfer within 30 days of the closing date) is conspicuously printed on the top of the limited warranty. TAMKO’s rationale for the limitation of the transfer of the limited warranty, in part, is based on the fact that subsequent owners of a home have the opportunity to inspect the home (and its component parts such as shingles), negotiate the purchase price, and make subjective adjustments to the price based upon the home’s structural condition, market conditions, and various other factors. Specifically, a subsequent owner has the opportunity to inspect the roof and take any issues into account as part of the negotiation of the price of the home. It is part of the due diligence process in the purchase of a house that requires the purchaser to assume that responsibility and risk. (TAMKO obviously is not a party to such negotiations, does not know whether any adjustments to the purchase price should have been made or were in fact made due to the condition of the roof, and cannot determine if the subsequent homeowner negotiated a fair and reasonable purchase price for the home.) Therefore, TAMKO has chosen to provide a limited warranty that limits the transferability which is conspicuously printed on every bundle of TAMKO shingles.Review fromKaren H

We had our roof put on in 2019. Have gutters full of granules. Sent in samples and pictures and was told it was mold and received a check for $200 to have my roof pressure cleaned, wouldn’t that make more of the granules come off? Sent in a second sample and was told the same thing. Have had 2 roofing companies come out and say the same thing, need to be replaced. Going to get my lawyer started on this, looking to see if anyone else knows anything about an existing class action lawsuit against them?TAMKO Building Products, LLC

TAMKO handles all warranty claims in accordance with the applicable limited warranty which is provided to prospective customers online at tamko.com, in brochures and marketing materials provided to TAMKO distributors and is printed on every wrapper of TAMKO shingles so customers (and their contractors) can compare limited warranties between manufacturers prior to making their purchase. This customer provided shingle samples as part of his claim and the samples did not show a shortage of granules. Asphalt shingles are manufactured using excess granules to help ensure there is sufficient granules remaining on the shingles to protect the shingles, so it is not unusual to find granules in gutters after weathering events. The customer' shingle samples did show discoloration from algae and the applicable limited warranty provides a 10-year algae cleaning provision wherein TAMKO will provide up to $15 per square to clean the algae from the roof. This algae cleaning remedy is prorated in according to the age of the shingles. PLEASE NOTE - YOU SHOULD NOT POWERWASH AN ASPHALT SHINGLE ROOF TO REMOVE ALGAE AS THIS WILL DAMAGE THE SHINGLES. YOU SHOULD CONSULT A ROOFING PROFESSIONAL WHO CAN CLEAN A ROOF WITHOUT DAMAGING THE INTEGRITY OF THE SHINGLES. DAMAGE FROM POWERWASHING WOULD BE EXCLUDED FROM COVERAGE UNDER THE LIMITED WARRANTY. If the customer believes the shingle samples, he provided, are not representative of the issue, he can contact Warranty Services again at [email protected] and request another claim kit and TAMKO will gladly review any additional samples he wishes to provide.Review fromDale L

New construction 2017. Home purchased Jan 2019. After 15 months, TAMKO shingles had some loss of granules. After 6 years, 40-60% loss of granules with fiberglass layers exposed and fading on TAMKO shingles. Contacted the TAMKO warranty department. TAMKO warranty rep stated the shingles won't be covered under their warranty because the transfer of warranty wasn't done within 30 days. This TAMKO shingles product is horrible, doesn't last, fades, and is not worth installing.TAMKO Building Products, LLC

I moved into a community with an HOA last year September 2022. Was told at time of inspection roof shingles were defective. Was assured it would be taken care of by the HOA. Here it is over a year later, and the HOA is still waiting to receive the packets, for 16 buildings in our community with defective shingles. The roofer already came out about 6 months ago and pulled samples - still waiting for the packets. Is it normal to take over a year to get just the packets? Nothing about this company TAMKO sounds legitimate. I unfortunately am at the mercy of the HOA and the management company, but if I do not get some answers soon, I will be calling the local TV stations and reporting how we as elderly homeowners are being taken advantage of. I have never in my life seen any kind of warranty take this amount of time. And, I forgot to mention that apparently our claim had to be filed twice to Tamko..NOT SURE WHY. Buyer and contractors beware! They do not stand behind their defective shingles and wear you out jumping through hoops to meet the demands of their warranty only to send a measly $200 check! If there is a class action lawsuit pending, please add me to the list. This is far from over.
By the way, Tamko better not post anything about calling, emailing etc. You don't get a live person. You get to leave a message and hope the person calls you back in a day or two. If they do, they will parrot the same useless information while they are taking care of their barking dogs or doing dishes. They just don't care.TAMKO Building Products, LLC

TAMKO provides a limited warranty to purchasers of TAMKO shingles as part of the original sales transaction which provides a remedy to the purchaser in the event TAMKO shingles have a manufacturing defect directly resulting in leaks. Many manufacturers of consumer goods offer a limited warranty on its products and the consumer is free (if they so choose) to read the limited warranty prior to making the purchase. TAMKO prints its limited warranty on every package of TAMKO shingles it manufactures, has it available online at Tamko.com, and provides printed versions that are available through distributors; so homeowners (as well as retailers and contractors) have the opportunity to read and compare our limited warranty to others as they consider which brand of shingles to buy. TAMKO's limited warranty includes a 120-month limited algae cleaning warranty which is provides for $15.00 per affected square to have the roof professionally cleaned. The cleaning amount is prorated depending on how long the shingles have been exposed to the elements. The proration takes into account the amount of time the shingles have been in service.
If you leave a voice message with TAMKO's warranty Services department, it will be returned within 2 business days. The reviewer called and left a voice message with TAMKO on August 1, 2023 and a representative called her back the same day but received no answer. The representative left a voice message asking the review for a call back and requested she leave a good time that she would be available. The reviewed called back on the morning of August 3, 2023 and left a message she would be available for a call in the afternoon. At 2:30 PM that afternoon, the representative returned her call and spoke with the reviewer and went over the settlement offer for the algae cleaning that she received from TAMKO and confirmed it was correctly administered under the terms of the limited warranty.
Regarding the comment about a class action lawsuit - almost every roofing manufacturer in the country has been sued by a group of lawyers claiming class action status. To date, no court has ever determined there to be a class action certified against TAMKO. Allegation made in such a suit does not mean they are based on actual facts. TAMKO stands behind its roofing shingles and limited warranties. We are proud of our products and have vigorously defend ourselves against these meritless class action lawsuits.Review fromKristal M

TAMKO does not stand behind their product! There’s a class action lawsuit because of shingle defects and they’re only paying for about 40% of replacement cost on a 2.5 year old roof. The house is 2.5 years old, and needs a new roof due to shingle defect and we now have to pay over $16,000 out of pocket to get it replaced. Would NEVER use their product again.TAMKO Building Products, LLC

Regarding the class action lawsuit - anyone can bring a class action lawsuit and make allegations against a company but the act of bringing the suit does not make the allegations true nor does it mean that the suit will ultimately be certified as a class action. TAMKO has chosen to defend itself against these class actions and has been very successful in doing so. In fact, no court has ever held the allegations made by class action plaintiffs to be true nor has a court even certified a class in any class action brought against TAMKO. As stated above, when administering claims initiated under the limited warranty, we stand behind the limited warranty’s terms and conditions and provides the stated remedy to the homeowner in the event of shingles having manufacturing defects causing leaks. We look forward to hearing from you soon.Review fromJohn S

Do not use TAMKO. New construction that is 6 years old needs a new roof due to granual loss. Every roofer that has come to the address states TAMKO is a cheap and insufficient option that builders will use to cut cost.
TAMKO has a "warranty claim" that they state is printed on every package of shingle that states the warranty is basically for the original purchaser. If the original purchaser is the builder and not the person moving in, the builder will be the one who has a warranty. That is clearly useless to any homeowner. If anyone has ever seen shingle packages, they're thin plastic that is almost always ripped in a many places. I'm not sure how you're supposed to read fine print of something that is ripped up and dirty.
TAMKO will make you go through a packet, pull shingles, and take photos just to tell you they won't cover it because of their warranty terms.
From my experience and everyone else's experience on the BBB it appears the shingles are almost garuanteed to fail at 6ish years.TAMKO Building Products, LLC
