I recently experienced a troubling business interaction with Lawrence Acupuncture and Mud & Lotus Spa. After purchasing a massage table from me in March of 2021, ******* ********** attempted to renegotiate the price three years later on February 3, 2024, insisting it be lowered to her benefit. When I declined to accommodate her request, she responded with a barrage of threats and insults. As a result, I have decided to terminate my association with her establishment.

      Business Response

      Date: 02/20/2024

***** ******* started to work for me my business as a subcontractor in 2021, and I agreed to do let her do trades in the office with her pre-exisitng clients who had preprid her with cash or trades, in exchange for a small fee which would go towards the value for an electric massage table that she brought to my offiice. Our agreement that was once the total value was worked off, I would then own the table.  I never did agree to purchase the table if she were the leave the contract. I began to have concerns about her professionalism in 2022 when ***** would frequently arrive to work smelling like cigarette smoke and marijuana. I actually found once a marijuana roach that she left behind on the office counter. I had to have to have several meetings with ***** about these issues, and also to address concerns of her not charging late cancel fees to clients who frequently no showed or late cancelled  (per company policy), treating other massage therapists or office staff rudely ("walk on eggshells" was a term several staff members used to describe working with her) and frequent calling in sick or late canceling on our clients.

Other problematic behavior began, such as ***** telling me, the owner, that I couldn't use my own office on days when she was scheduled to work, even when her schedule was empty and even though she is paid on commission and doesn't pay any rent. She also started do "trades" with cash paying referrals that I had sent to her and was essentially stealing money from the company by taking home goods/services for the full price of the session, cutting me out of the transaction. I also felt like the trade value of the electric table was incredibly inflated, as I discovered I could buy a brand new electric table for 1/2 the cost of her used one. Considering that I considered ***** a friend, I asked to take her out to dinner and to have a meeting to re-negotiate the terms of our agreement, certain that she would be able to hear my perspective and would be amenable to updating our agreement to make it more currently reflect my needs as a business owner. ***** refused to update our agreement or to hear my concerns, and I when I even offered to keep our agreement the same (per the value of the table) she decided to end our contract. I offered to let keep the massage table (very generous as technically I own 1/2 of it, after her doing many trades for the last 3 years for free in my office) as long as she finished out the next 4 weeks in the office (again, in the contract) . ***** agreed, but decided two days later to suddenly cancel all of her appointments, and took the table I partially own from the office with no warning or communication. Her lack of consideration of others and selfish behavior has been shocking and hurtful to many members of my staff and it is very unfortunate that simple compromise couldn't be found as ultimately that was my goal.
