On November 29, 2023, McCarty Mechanical installed a Heil 3.5 Ton Air Heat Pump. They specifically recommended equipment with a lower SEER2 rating, and sold me the equipment with the lowest rating that it was legal to sell in 2023 -- and which did not meet requirements for a rebate or tax credit. As a member of the company’s preventive maintenance program, the discounted nstallation cost was $11,595.25.

The system was not adequate to my house and temperatures upstairs dropped to a chilly 58 degrees. The humidifier ran as low as 8 percent according to the thermostat-- and when they tried to correct this, the blower fan never stopped running.

They left bare (probably hot) wires unconnected for the humidifier – which I discovered on December 13. And on December 29, the saddle connection used to link the water line to the humidifier sprang a leak, spraying water into my basement,

After numerous calls about the system not heating adequately, nor humidifying adequately ***** McCarty sent me a proposal for a new system on March 6th. In that, he said, “You will receive $8,526.74 worth of credit toward your new system or that amount can be refunded to you if you decide to go a different route.”

Another HVAC company said the equipment in *****'s proposal was too tall to fit my basement. Thus, I asked McCarty Mechanical for a different proposal.

The owner, *** McCarty, came to look at the system on April 24 and on May 14 submitted a new “proposal.”

It again cited a $8526.74 credit, but said “The credit from the previous installation is only good if our company installs the system as described in option 1. There will be no refund if the owner decides to go withs [sic] another company.”

His proposal gave no model numbers and no system performance information. When I asked for more information and an AHRI certificate, he never responded. Given no workable option from this company, I would like a refund of $8526.74 as originally promised by ***** McCarty.
