Excel Custom Coatings completed a grind & seal of my basement concrete 9/7/24. I requested a look similar to photos on their Facebook page (see attachment). Once my job started, the boss didn't communicate well with either myself or his worker which caused further delays (beyond unavoidable delay of worker w sick child). He didn't check on the progress of the job, inspect the workmanship. He didn't come when I voiced serious concerns prior to the pouring of the second/sealing coat, and subsequently never came after the job was complete. Unfortunately I paid cashier's check ($1000) and cash ($1700), trying to be a good customer. With the nature of the top layer, I couldn't appreciate the issues as I couldn't walk on it for 24 hrs. The overall look was what I wanted; that was all I could really tell at the end of the job. The patch material chosen to fill prior carpet tack strip holes was not a good match. I KNEW it would be visible (see attachment), but didn't anticipate this significant mismatch. Additionally, reference photos demonstrate a smooth finish to the top layer (look at product applied, not the concrete underneath). Mine is not at all poured well and there is all kinds of visible texture in the product. After the first pour, and some of the sanding of it in preparation for the final pour, I was able to inspect the floor, and I had very serious concerns that exactly what happened would happen/be visible. I was told by both the assigned worker and the boss that those things would NOT be visible after the final pour. As noted above, the boss did not come to inspect himself to further reassure me that all was well. He initially responded to me/my requests to come and see the finished product. He has since stopped communicating and hasn't come to see it. Requesting at least partial, better full refund as I'm worried this will need redone sooner than usual, and added expense of adding quarter round to baseboards to try and hide carpet tack strip holes.
