On June 10, 2024 I visited the KC Hot Tub Warehouse at 1321 E Sheridan Bridge Lane in Olathe, Kansas in search of a hot tub for fathers day because they had ran a Father's Day special on ********. I found the hot tub I was looking for, it had water in it, the jets were flowing and the temperature was at 99 degrees, it was listed at $3800 and I was told by *** himself the tub was 9 years old. When talking with *** we came to the agreement that he would do the electricity work at my home in *********, Missouri and run the electricity to my electrical box and include the hot tub, a cover, steps, delivery and a 90 day warranty for $4000. I agreed to said price and he gave me an invoice and we set the delivery/payment date to be Wednesday June 12, 2024 which was two days later. The hot tub was indeed delivered on Wednesday June 12, 2024 and the electrical was connected and I started filling the tub with water. All of workers left when I gave them the $4000 payment at which point there were no red flags. That evening when the hot tub got filled with water it blew the breaker box three times before I disconnected the hot tub so it would stop blowing the breaker that *** had set up. I called *** immediately Wednesday afternoon at 5:23 PM to let him know about the breakers constantly blowing and he informed me he had a job in Lee’s Summit Thursday and would come by my house Thursday June 13, 2024 around noon to work on my breaker box he didn’t set up correctly on Wednesday. Wednesday evening I decided to do some research on the Great Lakes GL7 spa I was sold by ***. I made numerous calls to Michigan and California only to find out the ***** ***** spas sold to ******* Spas is 2007 and then ******* Spas went out of business in 2015 so I couldn’t get any help, and never will be able to get help for this hot tub, through customer support for those companies since they’re not in business anymore. Furthermore, the ***** ***** GL7 spa was last sold in 2008 so the used hot tub I purchased that was supposed to be only 9 years old was rather 16 years old. When *** arrived at my house on Thursday at 1:00 PM to work on the breaker box I informed him of the following issues I wasn’t happy about.

•I was sold a 16 year old hot tub for $4000
•The hot tub wasn’t turning off unless the breaker box was turned off
•The temperature of the water wasn’t warming up(although it had been running all day Thursday)
•The back captains seat jet wasn’t turning on
•The breaker box repeatedly getting blown because of the overload he ran into two breakers

I inquired about a return policy at which point I was told there was no return policy. I asked if I contacted small claims court would there be a return policy and once again I was told no. *** asked if I wanted to him work on the electrical box and try to swap out breaker boxes and I asked him to leave my house while informing him I could be calling small claims court and leaving negative feedback for his company. Upon his departure I requested one last time for a refund and I would not leave any negative reviews but he walked away without a response.

      Business Response

      Date: 07/03/2024

I told the customer that the previous owner that traded it in thought that the tub was around 9 years old. The breaker that the customer said blew was a temporary one and I would order the correct one and have it sent overnight and stop by a put it in for him. I told him that I hoped the temporary one would hold until the permanent one came in. When I came out the next day with the correct breaker, the customer had already made up his mind that he didn’t want the tub, I guess because of some bogus research that he did online that said Great Lakes had gone out of business in 2015. This is incorrect. That particular store he researched did go out of business, but the main factory is in fact still producing hot tubs and have numerous dealerships throughout the country with customer service departments.

I do have a return policy if something is wrong with the tub. There is nothing wrong with this tub. The customer was just too impatient to give this tub a chance.

We will be seeing him in court with our countersuit.
