We used YRC Freight to pick up a shipment from a warehouse in Baltimore. First we obtained a quote from YRC which we agreed. We then sent to YRC Dispatch a Bill of Lading which contained the shipment particulars and a Delivery Order and we specifically mentioned that the YRC driver must bring along a copy of the Bill of Lading and Delivery Order because the warehouse would not release the freight without seeing these documents. The YRC Dispatch acknowledged receipt of our documents and understood our instructions. However, the YRC driver did not bring the above documents and was not able to obtain our shipment from the warehouse. He had to go back a second time with the paper works to get the shipment. When we received the invoice, we discovered that YRC added the cost of an extra trip ( $195.00 ) which was caused by their own mistake. We asked them to remove the charge and they refused.Business Response

i keep getting a bill for a wrongful charge. i never contacted this company about a shipment, i never contracted them for a shipment. i sold a hood to a person whom contracted yellow freight or yrc on their own. they sent me a bill of lading to attach to the hood. i had zero part in this and i am NOT paying this bill. they need to contact the consigner ****** *****. his address is **** * ******* **** *** *****. his phone number is ************.
the account number is saying *************. the charge is for $982.37, the hood sold for 100 dollars. i would never in my life accept to pay 10 times the cost of the part to ship. im extremely disapointed in your business.Business Response

The bill of lading, the legal shipping document that instructs all aspects of the shipment is noted as freight charges being prepaid. I see that our company has been in contact with the receiver of the shipment to see if he will accept responsibility for the freight charges. If the receiver accepts responsibility, the company will reverse charges and bill him for the shipment. At this time, I do not see that the receiver of the goods has acknowledged that he will be responsible for the freight charges. I can get involved directly to help mitigate the shipment fees if that would help get the receiver involved in accepting the freight charges.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: again i had no contact with yrc or yellow freight at anytime reguarding this shipment. this is a crazy plan or scheme to rob people. the charges on this bill were out of thin air...lift gate service for pickup, no sir there was no lift gate used or ordered, residential pickup? no sir i met the truck driver at ******* ****** ******** plant a commercial business in spencer ny. the hood was a flat hood, loaded by hand...no pallet. it was 60x48x6". i would absolutley never agree to pay these charges as the hood sold was for $99 dollars. this is insane that you are trying to rip people off this way. the BOL was provided to me from the buyer. your system is flawed. please do more research. thank you.

i keep getting a bill from YRC for a freight charge that i had no part of. i sold a hood to a person on **** and told it was for local pickup. the hood sold for $99. the buyer then asked if HE could set up a shipper to come get it. i said sure. he contacted YRC im assuming and HE obtained a BOL. HE then emailed it to me to print for the pickup. ive done this many times for freight for people and had no issue. well this time YRC is trying to charge ME $982 dollars to ship this hood that i literally had zero part in the shipping. my buyer has told me multpile times that this was paid for on his end. i would never agree to a shipping charge or such asstronomical numbers for a hood that was sold for $99. as you might be able to tell the numbers are not real profitable. also there are many false charges on the bill, as for residential pickup, i thought i was helping the driver meeting him and loading it onto his truck myself at the ******* ****** corporation, a commercial business in the town of spencer ny. also the hood was simply wrapped in cardboard and was a total size of 50x60x5 inches when the bill is showing a much much larger item. i am in no way responsible for this bill and i will not be paying it. i believe i am being harrased, overcharged and wrongfully charged. i have many corresponding emails with the buyer, i have all of his contact info. i also opened a case with the BBB because i feel im being taken advantage of. im attaching all the documents i have. please consider my plea. thank you.Business Response

The Bill of Lading, which is a legally binding document which was presented to our driver and signed by our driver at the time of the pickup notes the freight charges are prepaid by the shipper. We have no knowledge of any previous arrangements the shipper made with the consignee, but the Bill of Lading is noted as freight being prepaid and consequently he is responsible for the freight charges. I also suspect that the consignee did not secure a rate with our company prior to making the arrangements. Unfortunately this has the appearance of the consignee scamming the person sending the freight. While I empathize with the shipper for getting caught in this situation, we still need to be paid for our services. In an effort to get this settled, and I suspect the consignee has no intention of paying anything back to the shipper, our company would be willing to reduce the current charges of $982.37 down to an even $300.00. That is our offer to settle this situation.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: i am not paying one dime of this money. luckily i have the ORIGINAL BOL signed by the driver with the tracking number. as you can see the box i circled on your BOL states charges are prepaid. you are not getting any money from me. i suggest you contact the person whom set this whole thing up and i can guarantee you i will never use YRC or YELLOW freight again and highly advise anyone of ever using your company.

In shipping terms, there are 3 options:
Prepaid means the shipper is paying for the freight charges (you)
Collect means the consignee will be paying for the freight charges
3rd party - means a party other than the shipper or consignee will be paying for the freight charges.
Unfortunately, I feel the customer was gaming you on this situation. The legally binding document shows that the freight charges are "prepaid"- by the shipper (where the freight is shipping from).
I am sorry your customer put you in this position, but those are the legal shipping terms.

YRC quoted $340 for a shipment from Cleveland, OH to Peoria, IL. After 7 days, it had not been delivered. Upon calling YRC i found they had only moved the freight 32 miles to Akron, OH... in 7 days. When I asked for an estimated delivery date, I was told she had no idea when it would leave Akron and couldn't even say if it would leave that next week. We hired another freight company to "rescue " the freight from YRC and deliver it to the customer. Once we filed to rescue this away from YRC, they tacked on a $270 charge plus changed the class and weight of the shipment bringing the new total for the shipment they picked up and drove 32 miles to $1,066.06. YRC's past due notice is even a different amount from what their collections is asking for.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: The freighter quoted a ~$300 rate (after discounts) initially to move this from Cleveland, OH to Peoria, IL. It went from Cleveland to Akron, OH (32 miles) and was stranded. We have to pay another freighter to come in to YRC's facility and get the shipment since YRC could not give us a deliver date after 7 days ( shipment was supposed to take 3 day max initially. YRC invoiced (~$800) this without the discounts we are afforded with our account and now are offering us the discounts and charging the initial discounted rate as if this shipment was completed to destination. YRC is asking for $344 for moving our shipment 32 miles of the 482 miles quoted. If they want $800 we should do it based on percentage. They moved this shipment 32 of 482 miles or roughly 7% of the quoted distance to destination. $800 * 7% = ~$50. We agree to pay 7% of the invoice or the amount of work YRC did towards moving this to destination in Peoria.

Our company has been in communication with this customer and we have removed $476.05 from the invoice, leaving a balance of $344.00. The customer was also advised of the proper way to secure a rate quote as they did not complete the process to secure that dollar amount properly. Regardless, we adjusted the invoice as a one time adjustment for the customer. The shipper identified this shipment on the Bill of Lading as Class 50. A product that would fit in the description as Class 50 under the industry standard National Motor Freight Classification Guide would be horseshoes or bricks. Something extremely dense, heavy and hard to damage. The shipper was actually shipping 10-foot long conveyor sections that are 3-feet wide and 6 feet tall. That freight is significantly different in description that something that would classify as something like horseshoes. It takes up an extreme about of room for the weight and costs a carrier much more to ship. Unfortunately a piece of freight that size also creates timely transit issues when we try to load a 10-foot long piece with other freight in a 28-foot semi trailer. Regardless of those challenges, along with the general supply chain challenges we are dealing with, we did delay this shipment beyond what we normally would try to accomplish. All things considered, it played a hand in our decision to reduce the freight charges by $476.05. Technically, due to the misrepresentation of the product being shipped when the customer received the freight quote, the true freight charges were considerably higher than the $340 they were originally quoted.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: The freight classification doesn't matter since YRC didn't end up shipping this. *** ******** did. They want $344 but YRC completed no task, in fact they stranded this load. YRC lost track of this and it was stuck in Akron. They mention totals, both quoted and charged, as if this shipment was completed and there was no issue, like losing the load, outside of the freight class. Not once have they mentioned the numerous failures to complete this shipment on their end. YRC wants money for something they didn't do. Even if I was shipping horseshoes, you don't deserve to receive anywhere near even 40% of what you are now arbitrarily "quoting." YRC still lost this for seven days and was not able to complete this shipment. I have been told by our accounting team, we will allocate $95 to YRC and that is all. YRC completed no task inside a 7 day period at that time the shipment was removed from their hands when we were told YRC "has no idea when it could ship out."

I purchased a used tractor engine from ************ and ***** ******* ******* ** **** ******** ************ *** ***** on 7-02-2022. I made the purchase with a credit/debit card in the amount of $1100.00 for the engine and $396.10 for shipping a total of $1396.10. ****** ***** * **** ***** ******* ******* July 2, 2022 It was supposed to be shipped the following Friday I believe. I contacted them on 7/7/2022 about shipping and he said he would get me a pro#(tracking#) . 7/8 contacted the seller and he sent the pro# in email. Tried to find out information with no luck. Contacted seller again on 7/10 10:32 am, no response. 7/13 contacted the seller again about the pro# to make sure I had it right and to see if it had been delivered to the trucking terminal in Columbia, Mo., my place of pick up. He said it had shipped but was in route. He also gave me YRC freight 800#. I called them after checking location with the pro# and they said it was stalled in St. Louis and the paper work was messed up. Contacted the freight company again on 7/22 and found out it was still stalled out in St. Louis. 7/26 contacted the seller again and informed him of the paper work messed up. He didn`t understand why. It was then lost at the terminal In Columbia, Mo. for around another 3-5 days. I called the terminal several times and they assured me it wasn`t there. After some time they said it might be under something else? I called again and the guy ask how big the engine was and I told him a little 4 cylinder tractor engine. He told me to hold on and ask what color it was and I told him brown. He came back to the phone and said it was there. . I went to pick it up, it was on a broken up pallet that he sat on another pallet and said that it was sent that way. 2 tiny little plastic straps that were falling off, not even tight. My company *** *********** ** ******** is being ignored by Freight company YRC. To give a little background on this, we are a plastics manufacturer in Plymouth MA. Our customer asked us to set up delivery of their product with their carrier, YRC, which we did. The two pallets never made it to our customer and end up being returned to us, one at a time, in completely destroyed condition, completely unfit for reworking or further use. When the driver dropped off the first pallet back to YRC, he actually told our receiver the pallet was damaged when their truck was stolen during a BLM protest. The second pallet eventually made its way back here in an equally destroyed state. Our customer refused the delivery of these two destroyed pallets, and rightfully so, but when we attempted to file a claim with YRC it was immediately denied. They are claiming since we have both pallets back that we are not owned anything, but the two pallets left our warehouse in mint condition and were returned as scrap. We have been trying for months now just to get YRC to acknowledge the claim, but they have completely ghosted us, not responding to our calls or emails. My company is at a lost at what to do. We were clearly wrong by YRC, but they refuse to even respond to us, never mind take ownership for what they have done. We are not trying to ruin their reputation, just receive back compensation for the product they destroyed... please help.Business Response

YRC just today approved our claim that was over 70 days old. Super late, and they wouldn't even acknowledge us on 90% of our emails or calls. We had to take drastic steps, like reaching out to the BBB to get them to even admit they had shipped this order for our customer. You can consider this complaint closed. Shipment instructions clearly required that a delivery appointment be pre-arranged. A delivery slip was to be signed by the consignee. Product was delivered without the requested delivery appointment and during a holiday. No delivery slip signed.
Driver was seen on a security camera outside the consignee’s address. He parked the truck, went up to the door and knocked. No one answered and then he proceeded to walk back to his truck and left this shipment of 2 pallets outside by a roll up door. There was pouring rain for hours and our pallets of electronic equipment and speakers were left there to get soaked. The shipment was not discovered until 7/6/22 @ 6:30am. TWENTY hours later. This shipment should have gone back to the Mobile, AL terminal and phone calls to shipper should have been made. We filed a claim for the cost of shipping, which was denied. Any further requests for follow up and any communication have been ignored. Appears to be a standard form letter since the denial was not even based on our claim. We want the cost of shipping refunded because it was not delivered according to our requirements and YRC is denying our claim for damages to the product (which we have not asked for). I can not get anyone to address appeal rights. It appears that the "claims" department is a scam. Thank you.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:This response is inadequate. There is no resolution in just agreeing to "pass it along" to someone else.
I am attaching the letter of denial that ********** received from YRC initially. It outlines what department and specifically whom should be replying to this complaint. I have contacted this department to no avail.
An adequate resolution would be to recognize that the denial letter is not responsive o the initial complaint and request for a refund of shipping charges. And then reprocess the claim. It seems like it is either a form denial (which raises its own issues about the company's good faith) or the processor did not read it carefully enough to see that his response does not apply.

This dispute started with two shipments, one to *** ********, and one to **** ********. I have attached the original invoices for these two shipments. They each included a $75.00 residential pickup charge. I did not pay these charges, as these pickups were from my place of business. They were not residential pickups. I paid for both these invoices together on Feb. 20, 2022, with my check number **** for $1,100.80. Subsequently I received a Balance Due statement dated 2/9/22, with two additional charges of $65.00 each, for Liftgate service at the destination and Inside delivery, which I have also attached. This statement also showed the Residential pickup fee of $75.00. I paid the two $65.00 charges on March 14 (having spent the intervening time unsuccessfully trying to resolve the matter of the residential pickup fees with YRC freight) with my check number **** for $130.00. It will be apparent that the total I have paid is 1,230.80, which is the total of the original invoices, plus the two $64.00 charges less the two charges for residential pickup. I have also attached the collection letter I received from ***** and ****** which states that I owe $271.09. I believe that this amount is approximately the sum of the two incorrect $75.00 charges which I did not pay and will not pay, and the $130.00 payment (for which I have an image of the cancelled check on my bank statement) which was evidently misattributed by YRC Freight. I do not know where the slight discrepancies on these documents come from. I have spent an enormous amount of time unsuccessfully attempting to resolve this issue with YRC Freight, and I can not afford to spend more time on it.Business Response

From an invoicing perspective, a business conducted at a residence or remote/rural area is going to be considered a residential pickup or delivery area. The residential charges are valid in both cases.Customer Answer
Date: 07/28/2022
Their message does not address the fact they have failed to credit my account with my payment of $130.00 with my check number **** dated 3/14/22.
With regard to the residential pickup charges: They may consider these to have been residential pickups. I consider them to be commercial pickups. The quotes for the shipments in question did not include charges for residential pickups. They provide no justification for the charges beyond saying that there is a house on the property. They offer no additional services, nor do they claim that the pickup involves any extra expense for them. In fact as usual I had the items outside my shop, where they were readily accessible, I had bills of lading ready, and I helped the driver load them onto his truck – I did all I could to expedite the pickup. My property is not remote or difficult to access.
It is insulting to imply that because of the presence of the house, I am not running a bona fide business. I have been doing this for over 30 years. I have never had to pay an extra charge for a so-called residential pickup, and I will not start now. I will not pay these charges.

The "residential cost" for a trucking company addresses a situation where the business is not in a traditional business setting. There is greater risk of running large equipment in those areas and greater cost when customers are less densely populated so the truck has to travel further distances between customer locations. No one is disputing that a business may be located at a residential type location, but the charges address the geographic location of these types of pickups.
