On Sunday, February 19, 2023, The Market at MacVicar published a photo of a bounced check on their ******** page. It did not conceal any personal information so the account number, and individual's address and phone number were visible to all ***** followers and all future followers. The post was public and it was shared multiple times. I know it's ok to share the name of someone who wrote a bad check but it's not ok to share their personal information. And there should be some kind of ramification for doing so.

    Business Response

    Date: 02/27/2023

A fraud wrote us a bad check.  The account was closed, and had been closed for some time. It was closed prior to the individual writing us a check on the account.

We did post the check on our business page to notify other small businesses to be on the look out and to not take checks from the said individual.  Stores post bounced checks on their counters all of the time.  I see them posted in many shops.  I didn't see any difference in posting the check on our page from posting it on our front counter.

We are a small business and we do not have thousands of followers ** *** ******** ****.   The check was only posted on our page for a couple of hours.  When the woman, who issued this complaint, complained to us about it, we promptly took the photo off of our page.

Again,  we contacted the bank and the account that the check was written on is/was no longer an active account.  The name on the check wasn't the correct name for the account either.  The person who wrote the check had crossed out the name and address and had written in a fake name and address.  It was a fraudulent act on many levels.   Now I am out $***** for the fraudulent check and $***** charge from my bank and I have no recourse.   Even though it is an illegal act to write a fraudulent check, nothing will happen to the writer of the check.  As a small business owner,  I felt it my duty to try and warn other businesses to be on the look out for mentioned person writing fraudulent checks.

The check was only on our page for a few hours and then removed as we did not wish to offend anyone and the woman making this complaint very clearly notified us that she was offended.
