This business was for accounting purposes for my business. Every month the price fluctuated and I asked several times why and we never signed a contract for any services. The last month there, Dec 2022, the CPA sent me an invoice for over $8000 for one month of service. I highlighted the services I knew they provided and sent a check for about $1700, which he refused and sent back to me. On the invoice he had meetings listed that I never went to, people I had never met, services never provided. Every month he keeps sending me invoices with now interest and over $9000. He has also now sent me a letter saying I will be turned over to debt collectors and possibly taken to court. His fees are way higher than any CPA I have ever used and he has done this to several business owners- just surprised them with a ridiculous amount on an invoice and it needs to stop. I paid him every month, except the last month when he sent the check back. I feel as though at this point I owe him nothing.

    Business Response

All CPA Firms and Attorneys charge by the hour as our time and knowledge is the only product we have to sell. It would be virtually impossible to determine what a fixed fee could be when we don't have any idea how much time the client requires, and we don't do fixed fees for that reason. The Customer purchased an Insurance Practice in Ashland Kentucky and required significant services regarding that purchase. She was unfamiliar with the tax laws of the state and city, including payroll requirements. She requested the services in the form of questions and help with required filings which we performed as requested. Although she thought the services should be "fixed", no contact from us would have ever been "fixed" and she was told that numerous times, but kept requesting services, which we performed per her request. Her position is unreasonable that any firm would provide unlimited services for a small fixed fee she perceived all work should be billed at. This summarizes our response.
