On December 15, 2023, before utilizing services at CCMH, I called and asked the fee for their clinic. The receptionist said $50.00. At the clinic, the same receptionist requested the $50 prior to my husband being seen by the nurse practioner. I filled out papers with nothing being stated about the $50.00 fee being a partial payment or about any additional amount to be collected later. I paid the $50.00, and my husband was seen. On February 19th, we received a hospital bill with a balance due of $133.00. I called the billing office, explained the situation, and was told that the office supervisor, Deserae would have to make any adjustment. As my call had not yet been returned, two days later I called back and asked to speak with ******** She stated that her supervisor said that services had been performed and that no adjustment could be made to my bill but that they were going to speak to their employees about changing the wording that would be used when people called to ask their fee. I explained that one can't say a a steak costs $50, let someone eat it, and then decide that it costs $183.00. That's wrong. And for clarification, we live in an area that does provide low cost health care at a cost of $45 per visit (Switzerland County Nurse Managed Clinic, Vevay, IN). The only reason we chose Carroll County Rural Health Clinic, located across the river, was because our provider was unavailable that afternoon and the Carroll County Clinic's $50 fee was a reasonable one. We paid our bill. According to them, not us, it was $50.
