I was given a $250 gift certificate each Christmas by a previous employer to MFT. While an expiration date was written on one of the certificates, there was NOT one on the other. I called just recently to inquire about my balance and was told that it was over $400, which would have included the certificate with the expiration date and the one without. I just took both physical certificates into the store and not only would they not accept the expired one, which I could kind of understand (even though gift certificates are paid for and should theoretically NEVER expire), they also refused to honor the certificate WITHOUT an expiration date. I was told that they "decided in their last quarterly meeting that they expired now." She also told me that she could not give me the paper certificates back and that she had to keep and shred them. What a nasty way to treat people.

RE: My Favorite Things, LLC Complainant - ****** ******* **** ID No. ********

      To Whom it May Concern:

This letter is in response to a complaint filed by ****** ******* **** against My Favorite Things, LLC. Ms. Hall had 2 gift cards. The card which did not have an expiration date on it has now been honored by My Favorite Things, LLC. The card with the expiration date will not be honored since it has expired.

KRS 367.890(5)(c) states that if a gift card is given by an employer to an employee, and the card' s use is limited to the employer' s business establishment, then the card does not have to be honored after the expiration date so long as the expiration date was over 120 days. My Favorite Things is part of a group of merchants affiliated with the employer' s business establishment. My Favorite Things, LLC, was within its right to deny redemption of that card.

In this case, the complainant, ****** ******* ***** came into the store requesting both cards be redeemed. The sales clerk was

very polite and dealt with  he request in a professional manner . *** **** became upset and le=    the store .

After the sales clerk spoke with her supervisor and consulted with me , ** * **** was contacted and perm itted to redeem the card without the expiration date .
