On May 22, 2023, I went to the store with four huge boxes of clothing, shoes and toys. I also took in a baby swing, a baby boppy, a baby bathtub, a baby playmat and a cradle. I was told that if I chose to wait for a quote on how much money they would offer me for my things, it would be at least three hours to even get started. My other option was to drop my things off and get a quote in 3-7 days. I didn’t have several hours just to stand in their store so I chose to leave my things.

I had to input my information into a pad on the counter but in order to do so, I had to lean over mounds of boxes and bags that were in the way. I could barely see what I was doing. It was a cluster and it wasn’t an easy task to try to reach the pad. I completed the information and left the store.

A couple of nights later, I received an email saying that they were giving me $29 for all of my items and the stuff that wasn’t accepted was being sent to charity. I was really upset. I emailed them back and told them I didn’t accept the offer and I wanted my items back. Several emails later, I was being bullied by the employee saying I had signed some sort of agreement (I’m assuming on the pad that I couldn’t get to).

However, at the bottom of the email, it clearly states that I had three days to pick up my things before it was donated. When I asked about this, I was told it meant that I could get my totes and boxes. It did not say that I could pick up my totes and boxes, it said I could pick up my items.

I went to the store yesterday and the young girl named ******* who waited on me was extremely rude. I was told my things had been picked up and that was that. I feel like they stole from me.

My husband tried three times to call the owner. The first time he was told that she wasn’t there which I understand. The second time, he was told she was too busy. Same thing on the third time so he left his name and call back number. He was not called.

The owner has been no help to me.

    Business Response

Good afternoon. I am responding to the complaint made by *** **** ******** on 5/25/2023. I have been in business for over 13 years and to my knowledge, this is the first BBB complaint I have dealt with--that in and of itself should tell you something. I typed out a really thorough response, but it says I went over the character limit, so I have attached a PDF of my full response.

    Customer Answer

    Date: 05/31/2023

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

The customer lied. I have many friends of all ethnic groups and I would NEVER say anything derogatory towards anyone who is not American. I’m livid!

I did ask my husband to take over at the counter because the young lady working was smirking and rude. I did not want to be rude so I felt it was best for him to finish the transaction.

I asked a Moms group on Facebook if they had issues with this store because I was trying to figure out if it was just me. The responses were very negative. Apparently I am not the only person who has had bad experiences there. When someone questioned me about what happened, I stated the facts.

My clothes and items that I took to the store were in good clean condition. I checked and double checked. I would never take in anything that was in bad shape. The things they bought, I was given less than a dollar a piece for. Ridiculous.

The gals working were very young and clearly too busy talking about other customers to give me the correct information.

The email clearly states that I have three days to pick up my items. That is a lie on paper. In writing.

The owner herself said she didn’t return my husband’s calls because she thought it was someone else. Clearly, screening her calls and not returning them. I have a life as well and I can’t just call when she assigns me a time. That’s not acceptable.

Since I am the one fighting ***** *******, it looks like the owner could do right by me and make a donation to me for my own medical expenses instead of a charity. That is a slap in the face. Obviously I’m appalled that she would suggest this. I took the clothes and things to make money and instead of taking care of her customer, she wants to give to some unknown person.

    Sincerely,

    **** ********

    Business Response

*** ******** stated “I can’t just call when she assigns me a time.” I never assigned her a time. I told her I would be at the store if she would like to call the store. I then gave *** ******** my cell phone number to call at his convenience. It’s also ridiculous that she claims the woman who sent the email is lying. The customer must have been pretty upset by it as she tried to call me and then followed up with an email. I’m sorry that *** ******** took offense to my offer to make a donation to an organization that supports ***** ******* on her behalf. That was a very genuine offer. I have nothing else to say on this issue.
