    Here's a great reason to find a dentist with more care & humanity than this place, Hedges Dental. Spend your medical monies elsewhere.
    My late mother had been diagnosed with five (5) brain tumors via metastatic breast cancer 3 weeks prior to my appointment with Hedges Dental for a 10:00am routine filling. I was in a fender bender running errands before the appointment, and called their office quickly, over 2 hours before my appointment, to apologize and reschedule the appointment - which I could only schedule in the first place because extended family was in town to stay with my mother at UofL hospital, giving me a break to get this medical care. Hedges Dental informed me they had Zero (0) Tolerance Policy for cancellations less than 24 hours before the appointment. I requested the owner of the business, Dr. Jeffrey Hedges, whom I'd met at my first appointment a week prior and seemed kind and level headed enough, be made aware of the context of a vehicle collision. The staff member put me on hold and checked with him; Dr. Jeffrey Hedges confirmed that I be dismissed from the practice in accordance with their Zero Tolerance Policy.
    I was stunned, but had no energy to put up much of a verbal fight with my mom literally close to death - that had taken all of my emotional energy that day and all days, truly. My Mom died three (3) weeks later in hospital after a brave fight with our family at her hospital bedside.
    This gross example of poor customer service and simply lack of basic humanity stood in stark contrast to what I was experiencing with nurses at my mom's hospital unit - people who simply care for the wellbeing of those they served. Go. Somewhere. Else. Hedges Dental, including its founder and owner, do not deserve your business, your insurance monies, or your co-pays.

    Nicholas, we are very sorry to learn about your mother. We wish you and your family peace during this difficult time. It is impossible for us to know all of the circumstances that contribute to a patient missing their appointment without proper notice. However, with the high number of patients that do miss appointments (85 last month), we must have a strict attendance policy in order to stay in business and continue to offer quality dental care to everyone. Incidentally, this is verbally explained to all patients and is also explained in writing in your paperwork, and signed by you, the patient. I am happy to provide you a copy of your signed paperwork upon request. We simply would not be able to stay in business otherwise. Furthermore, after patients have established just a small pattern of showing up for appointments, we do make exceptions on missed appointments when we feel it's necessary.
    Lastly, I am very fortunate to have a team of very caring and empathetic people. They take care of people all day and they enjoy it. This policy is not in place to be vindictive or make anyone's life harder. It's unfortunate, but it's in place out of necessity. It's necessary to stay in business and to deliver dental care to patients in need. Thank you for your understanding!
