In April 2024 I was told I needed a new coil for $1800. Instead I purchased a new unit priced at $4000 and on the same day it froze up just like the old unit. It ran for 24 hours non stop and I was told they rigged it because there was an issue with the board. The next day I had to pay for a board. Then I was told that the inside unit needed to be reconfigured for another $1500 but I said no. If that was the issue then why not fix the actual problem rather than taking my Goodman and replacing it with a Ducane. Come to find out in June 2025 that this Ducane must have been refurbished because the unit is no longer made and the company in South Carolina went out of business years ago. The unit was smoking and almost caught fire with tenant and children. The fire department said the unit was old also and it messed up the breaker box which burned. The owner refused to replace the unit and claimed that in a year, I have not taken care of it. An air conditioner should last years not 12 months and it wasn't used in the winter so it only lasted a few months last summer. He is a fraud and I wouldn't trust any unit he sells. His attitude is unprofessional with my tenant and with me. He blamed me rather than taking care of the customer and told me I had a five year warranty. I can't file a report with BBB because its been over a year but McGinnis should be ashamed of how he put people safety at risk and my property which could have burned to the ground. Unfortunately, it will have to be a legal issue to get my money back or air conditioner replaced, but it will be worth it. I am a business owner myself and would never do this to a paying innocent customer or a family just needing to be cool in the summer heat.

McGinnis installed a new HVAC unit last year. As part of our initial service contract our AC and heater unit would be serviced. They came out in the spring and serviced our AC. We made an appointment to have our heating unit serviced. It was confirmed but nobody showed. We made several calls and sent emails with no reply. I went on their website and set up another appointment. Again nobody showed up. I sent another email asking for a response. Nothing!!!
We have heard nothing from them. For two weeks we have been trying to take care of this but when we call we get a voicemail and nobody calls back. When I send emails I never get a reply. Guess we'll need to find someone else to service our HVAC unit.

Dispatched by my home warranty 2-10 to service our ac unit. Waited all day and no call no show. The following day I received a text message stating they canceled my appointment from the previous day. After reading other comments and reviews happy they didn't show up. I will recommend my home warranty to remove them from the list of preferred contractors.

I am sorry that you had this experience. We received an email and an updated status change in the portal that stated that the homeowner had cancelled the appointment. We don't usually contact the home warranty compnay's customers to see why they cancelled. Customers are always welcome to call us for a status update when they have a scheduled appointment. However, thank you for taking the time out to leave us a review. All feedback is welcomed, it helps us to see if there is an issue that we need to look into deeper. I do wish that were able to provide service to you so that you could have based your review on personal experience. Our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Thank you and have a great day.

Just wanted to give a big ol' thanks for CANCELLING an urgent request for service DURING THE TIMEFRAME a service tech was supposed to be at my home. Not so much as a call, text, reschedule, or "we're sorry" - nothing from them. Just an email from my home warranty company stating McGinnis cancelled with ZERO explanation. I tried contacting McGinnis "customer service" to no avail - and no callback from my message. My whole-home AC is dead, the weather is hot and humid, and I have a sick one-year-old with a fever that I'm trying to keep cool - so yeah... way to go... There is absolutely no excuse for this.
I got a quicker response from my home warranty company reassigning the order to a more reliable company, even though I waited on hold for thirty minutes. And when I then spoke to the new contractor and told them of my situation, the representative sighed and said, "I don't know how McGinnis is still in business...". Clearly, their reputation precedes them.
I'm filing a complaint with my home warranty company regarding McGinnis' conduct. I've also experienced their poor workmanship in a past service request; no doubt many more beyond the commentors here have as well. The question isn't how are you still in business, it's WHY are you still in business?

Due to unforeseen issues, I apologize that we were not able to provide service for you on 7/11/23 and also for any discomfort this may have caused you. However, due to the urgency of your request, your work order was canceled through your warranty company’s portal so that they could reassign you to someone who had sooner availability. Your voice message was retrieved on the following business day because there was no one in the office to take your call. You are a customer of the home warranty company and they are notified of any changes made to the status of any work order in the portal. They notify their customers to provide an update and advise next steps. As far as any former work, there was never a record of a complaint regarding services provided to you by McGinnis Heating & Cooling in the past. Your warranty company assigned you to us and you were notified of such before we contacted you to set up an appointment. If there were any discrepancies of any sorts regarding the previous services provided to you, you had the option of asking to be reassigned to another company. Mentioning what a competitor stated when you spoke to them gives no merit to your complaint, they are our competitors and such is expected. We remain in business because customers of McGinnis Heating and Cooling are pleased with the services that we provide to them. In this situation we made the best decision based on your rapid needs.

I wish I could give them 0 stars! They were sent to my home by 2-10 home warranty to diagnose my HVAC System. I have 2 units and both furnaces are on the second floor. The technician said I just needed a new thermostat. He replaced the thermostat but my air still didn’t work. He then took the thermostat off the wall and said I needed a new low voltage wire ran. He called someone else to do it. When this guy got there he too couldn’t run the wire. He stated it needed to be fished through the wall and was unsure how to do it. He stated he didn’t know if it was covered by 2-10. I had to call them to make sure. He left my thermostat off my wall with wires hanging out and the wires to my furnace unplugged. After about 2 weeks of going back and forth with McGinnis and 2-10 to see if it was covered, 2-10 sent another contractor out. When I called McGinnis the boss was very rude and stated to me he wasn’t even getting paid for the job and he didn’t want to come out to my home. That was the first time I called. The next time I called him, I guess he didn’t realize he answered the phone and was in the background talking about weed. When he realized his phone was answered he denied it being him. He called me back and was even more rude then before. I had to call 2-10 and complain so that they would have to come back and put my thermostat back on the wall bc the 2nd contractor didn’t want to touch it bc of a liability issue. Air still isn’t working! I called the people that put the system in when my house was built 6 yrs ago. They told me my low voltage wire was unplugged and they left out the rc/rh jumper that is in the thermostat. All I needed was a contactor outside replaced. He was at my house for about 30 minutes. He also said that McGinnis was working on the 2nd floor thermostat but the first floor furnace. I highly do not recommend!!! They are very unprofessional, and ghetto!! I almost paid for an $800 repair I did not need! Now they are denying doing anything to my hvac

We are sorry that you had this experience through your home warranty company. We came out and diagnosed what we found to be the issue. The diagnosis was submitted to the home warranty company and they determine if they are willing to pay for the suggested repairs. The work order was later cancelled in the portal so we no longer had any access and we were not informed of the decision. After the cancellation we received a call asking us to come back and put the thermostat back the way in which we found it. A technician was immediately sent back out to do so. We apologize that the desired outcome was not reached in this situation. If there are any further questions or concerns please feel free to contact our office.
