I went to the Ultimate Vein Care Center/Baptist Health Medical Vascular Surgery, located at 4003 Kresge Way, Louisville Ky 40207, on July 30, 2024 for a consult on treatment for spider veins. I had been a previous patient there in 2019, and 2021 under *** ******. For the previous visits, my consult visits were free to review the options, then I paid for the treatment option I wanted. I never tried to use my insurance since it was considered cosmetic, and I understood treatment wasn’t covered.

This time, they scheduled an appt for their nurse practitioner * *********. I went to discuss the 2 treatments I know are available since I’ve had treatment in the past. I told her I wanted to think about which treatment I wanted since she didn’t recommend sclerotherapy this time (that’s what I did previously) but laser treatment. I was with the NP for about 7 minutes.

The following week, I got an email notification of a bill for $111.80. Originally $172 with a $60 discount. I called the billing office to ask why I received a bill for just a consult visit when I hadn’t in the past. The billing person explained that Baptist Health took control of the practice in March and that’s their practice. I asked if that amount would be deducted from the treatment costs I would get, and she said no.

No one told me the practice had changed to be owned by Baptist, or that now the consultation visit was no longer free but a full billed price. Since this was not transparent, I do not believe I should have to pay for this visit. And the fact that it was such a short visit where no service was provided other than to discuss my treatment options (which I already knew about since I was a previous patient), seemed to be unnecessary and just a want to fraudulently collect money from me. I would like the bill corrected to an adjusted amount of zero.
