I ordered a monogrammed leather phone case and a leather mag safe wallet from Clayton and Crume. Upon opening the package, I noticed several flaws in the craftsmanship that were inconsistent with photos shown on their social media page. I spent a total of $181.90 on these two items. Let’s begin with the inconsistency in color. Now, I don’t expect them to be a perfect match. However, I did expect them to look similar. When I ordered, I specifically asked that the color of the leather be as close as possible, as they’d be used together. But, that’s not even my most concerning complaint with these two items. The letters *** (my dad’s initials) are misaligned. And, although the representative I spoke to acknowledged a slight misalignment, he refused do anything to reconcile the mistake. In addition, the stamping looks different on both pieces. One looks to be surface level, while the other is pressed deeper into the leather. There is also discoloration underneath the letters on the phone case, which the representative I spoke to said is normal, however, it doesn’t appear under the letters on the wallet. As a small business owner myself, I understand that handmade goods aren’t perfect. But the fact that this company, their customer service, the owners, or whomever I spoke with praised their employees for A grade craftsmanship that’s anything but, is beyond my comprehension. Not only did this company not take responsibility for their mistakes in craftsmanship, they responded by saying that, “if these are not a good fit for you, I would encourage you to look for businesses with different priorities than us in terms of material, quality and personalization.” After looking into previous 1 star reviews, it is clear that Clayton and Crume and their employees have difficulty when it comes to hand stamping letters in straight line. Instead of acknowledging their mistakes, they blamed the customer.
