Before I took my car into this establishment I was confident that they would be able to resolve the issue with my car, but I was surprisingly very displeased with the service I paid for and that was provided to me.

I took my car into AAMCO on April 27th, 2022 because there was a loud clicking noise coming from the front whenever I would turn the steering wheel. AAMCO advised that they could take care of this issue and quoted me a price of $1,344.89. This is obviously a substantial amount of money but I was assured that it would take care of the noise I was hearing. When I went to pay the invoice and pick my car up on April 28th, 2022 I immediately turned the wheel as soon as I started the car up and still heard the clicking noise. I was very frustrated at this point because I not only expected the issue to be taken care of, I had also spent almost $70 on **** because my car was in the shop, so I felt like I had just completely wasted my money.

I called the shop back and they told me to bring the car back in, which I did, and while the car was in the shop, I continued to spend money on **** due to the many commitments I have. After picking it up again a second time, the issue still was not fixed. I even sent them a video of the sound because they couldn't hear it when they drove the car.

In total, I believe I dropped my car off 3 or 4 times with no solution to the clicking noise issue and (after everything) $1,390.35 wasted. Plus the money spent on ***** I'm frustrated with AAMCO and feel taken advantage of. I had just moved to ********** 2 months prior to this incident and this was a very off-putting first interaction with an auto shop in the city.

I want a refund of the $1,390.35 I paid to this establishment. I am not interested in their warranty because I will be taking my business elsewhere and don't want to continue wasting time and money with AAMCO.

Response For AAMCO Transmission and Total Car Care:

      To Whom It May Concern,

We have reviewed Mr ********’s complaint and we stand by our initial diagnosis. The customer brought his car in with the concern of a clicking and popping noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. Our technician’s diagnosis of the problem was that the vehicle’s front struts had failed, causing the noise(s) the customer was concerned about. We replaced the struts, test drove the car, and there were no more noises. We called for the customer to pick up his vehicle. He did, and called back within a few days concerned with what he says was the same noise. We had him bring it back in, and on every subsequent visit, none of our technicians were able to duplicate his concern. There were just not any noises from the vehicle.

We are sorry that this customer had to have an ****, but this is not uncommon for people to do while their vehicle is being serviced. We also do not feel a refund is warranted, because his vehicle was serviced and repaired (new front struts), and the original concern was addressed.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance in this matter.

        Respectfully,

        **** ******

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The original diagnosis was incorrect and therefore nothing was ever fixed. The struts were replaced for no reason.

      Regards,

I went to AAMCO on 126 Breckenridge Lane in Louisville, KY, and had my transmission fixed on 3/24/2023 and paid $5585.56 on 3/25/2023. The transmission was fixed according to AAMCO. We spoke to the owner/manager ****. He assured us everything was done correctly. When we brought the vehicle home and parked it in our concrete driveway, the transmission fluid leaked all over the driveway causing it to stain black. The car was towed back by AAA to AAMCO on 126 Breckenridge Lane. When **** evaluated the car transmission again he found that the bolt holding the transmission fluid was not installed properly. The bolt was loose and allowed the transmission fluid to leak out. This was the root cause of the leak onto our concrete driveway. The original work was not done properly due to AAMCO negligence. We contacted a pressure washing company, Down To Earth, Inc for pressure washing of the transmission fluid off of our concrete driveway. The estimated cost of the clean up is $1000. We sent this information to **** at AAMCO in an email on 4/2/23 and he has refused to pay for the damages occurred by his negligence. Please help me obtain monetary compensation for $1000 for the pressure washing repair costs to my concrete driveway.

      Hello,

Ms. ****** is correct in that we installed a new transmission in her vehicle. The customer did call back and said there was a fluid leak so we advised them to bring it back in for diagnosis. They had their vehicle towed back to us and we found the source of the leak. It was coming from the left front axle seal. This seal is not necessarily part of a transmission replacement, but in an effort of customer satisfaction, we took it upon ourselves to replace this seal. There was no "bolt holding the transmission fluid" that was loose, nor was this ever discussed. The customer's vehicle was repaired at no charge and they came and picked there vehicle up.

Several days later, I received an email regarding a bill to clean the customer's driveway. I advised the customer that this was not our responsibility.  After that last conversation with the customer, I never heard from them again until now. And in looking, today, at the attached invoice provided to you by the customer, it appears that the invoice is for the pressure washing of  their steps and patio area with just a mention of the driveway. There is no telling how long any of those stains have been there, or their source.

This customer's vehicle was repaired properly, and there was no negligence on our part. The customer has never had a concern about the transmission itself, i.e. shifting quality, noises, etc. I feel that by repairing the leak on the vehicle at no charge to the customer, and this leak not necessarily being part of the initial transmission repair, we have gone above and beyond for this customer. The request for money to clean the customer's steps, patio area, and maybe driveway, is not and should not be our responsibility. In my opinion, this is no different than this customer being in, say, a Kroger parking lot and stepping in gum and then asking Kroger to buy her a new pair of shoes.

      Thank You

AAMCO Transmissions and Total Car Care
