David M******* came out and looked at things we decided to move forward with the project. I asked for 3 references. I called all 3 and got good reviews and that is when we officially decided to hire M******* Construction. We met at *********** on September the 17th to sign a contract and put down $3,114 cash. We set a date and wanted it to be finished before mid Oct. I was asked to call ****** to come and drop off a dumpster for the tear down process. It was then that I found out that the total was for labor only. I had no idea the contract price was labor only. We asked several times for a breakdown in price and he just kept saying the price of wood changes all of the time. I understand that but we asked for an estimate to see how much more money we would have to come up with. It has been a year now, and nothing has been done. We still do not have a list of what will be needed to build this deck. We did ask for our money back and he refused to give it back because we signed a contract. He said he would hold the deposit until we got the rest of the money together. We still don’t know how much more it will cost because he has never given us a breakdown of cost and at this point I do not trust him to come to my house and do anything after the bad reviews were made. Every time I think about this it makes me sick to my stomach that this man could take our money and not blink an eye. After I went over this in my mind there were so many red flags. When we met to sign a contract he suggested we meet in the parking garage at the ****** in Cincinnati to exchange the down payment. He doesn’t have an office. He wouldn’t come to my house, so I suggested we meet at ************* Yes, I called 3 references but who would’ve given me a bad reference to call. The contract states “Customer pays for all material & any extras needed.” I read that as the materials were included with the quote and we would have to pay for anything extra needed.
