I was advised to have what appears to be an unnecessary procedure, despite my questioning it from the start. When I arrived for my Wednesday appointment, I no longer was having the symptoms I previously had, which was 1 of 2 reasons I was given as to why the test was necessary. The other rationale was that I previously tested positive for blood in the urine. Prior to the procedure, they were supposed to take another urine specimen, but refused to do so due to what the MA described as a "water shortage." What I think he meant to say was a saline shortage, but he wasn't using his big boy words that day. They then rushed me through the test that I was clearly concerned about. By Thursday evening I was having UTI symptoms. I called to report them in the morning and request an antibiotic. When nobody got in touch with me I sent a message through MyChart. After another extended wait, they responded back. I then responded that my symptoms were further escalating at 3:15pm (still plenty of time to go to their office and provide a urine test). They failed to respond until 3:41pm, telling me to go to an Urgent Care or ************** which were cost prohibitive. I responded back 3 minutes later and they waited until 4:30 (closing time) to respond, then ghosted me. I suffered immensely from the pain over the weekend, then was able to get a urine test at my PCP that Monday, but did not get the results until after they closed. I contacted the St. Elizabeth Physician's Urologist on call who now refused prescribing an antibiotic because he was concerned my white cell count was so high and that it could lead to sepsis. That necessitated an emergency room visit and forced me to incur significant, unaffordable ER expenses. This all could have been avoided had they allowed me to come into their office Friday afternoon and take the urine test. They then could have prescribed the antibiotics with objective evidence of the need for them. It would have taken less than 10 minutes.
