In the Fall of 2022 I took a **** ***** riding lawnmower to the business to have it serviced. I also took a Push mower to find out why it wouldn't start. The business gave me a verbal estimate (nothing in writing and nothing signed) of $120.00 for the service and $75.00 for the Lawn Mower. I was told that if there was any additional charges they would contact me before any work was done for my approval. I did not here form the business for 2 weeks. I called the business to find out the status and was told that the service manager was out of town. I was told that when he returned that he would contact me with the status. I heard nothing from the service manager. After another 2 weeks, I called back, and someone other than the service manager told me that the deck of the lawn mower needed work. When I asked them what was needed they told they were not sure and they have taken the mower apart and the parts were all over the floor. They told they would call me back and let me know what was needed. When the manager called me back, he said they had fixed the lawn mower and wanted to charge me in excess of $600.00. I asked them why they fixed it without consulting me first. I told them that I was not willing to pay that much for the work, because the lawnmower was old, and it would be more cost effective to buy a new lawnmower. I reminded them of the verbal estimate they gave me and their promise to call me before they did any work. I was told that since the work was done, they expected payment. I refused, because I didn't agree verbally or sign anything telling them to do the work. I received a call from the service manager who promised that I would not have to pay the $600.00 amount. When I went to the business in person, I explained my position again and told them that I was willing to pay the original verbal estimate given, but not for the work that was done without my permission. I was told that the owner gave the manger instructions to stand firm. So, I left, telling them to keep the lawn mower. I received a call from the service manager some days later. He promised that I would not have to pay the $600.00 amount. However, He wanted to charge me in excess of 300.00 which is well above the original verbal estimate. I refused the offer on principle. I am now receiving a bill for payment even though there is no written or verbal estimate or agreement.
